Itβs black history month, so that means itβs time for some black related articles. I see people always yelling about how we donβt have more black representation in Hollywood Films. Well, I donβt give a fuck about movies, so thatβs not a field Iβm familiar with, but I do give a fuck about anime. So I wanna ask, where are all the black voice actors for anime?
Now Iβm not one of those people that thinks the industry is keeping black people from voicing anime or something like that, but I do wonder why I donβt see more black voice actors in anime. I was surprised to see that the character Angelica Rogner, from The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, was voiced by a black lady name Kimberly Brooks. She also voice Shinobu from No More Heroes. You might also be surprised to know that Android 18 was also voiced by a black woman once, name Enuka Okuma. I also learned that Asahi Azumane from Haikyuu!! Was voiced by a black guy named Orlanders Jones. But this is his only role as of right now.
Sadly, he didn't do the best performance from what I heard.
This thought always comes to my mind when I see black or brown skinned characters in anime or games voiced by white actors. Now anyone can voice a character, most anime characters donβt even really have a race if weβre being honest. Itβs just always weird when I see a black character voiced by someone who is white. Usually, the only time you see a black voice actor with a black role is if the anime or game was made by black people such as Canon Busters and Boondocks. And yes, Boondocks is anime animeβ¦
Fight me nigga.
This could honestly just simply be that there arenβt many black people trying to be anime voice actors, or all the black voice actors who try to get into anime are garbage. But, Iβm on my way to becoming a voice acting, so maybe I can be the first ever black anime voice actor to make it big. Theyβll talk about me in the history books.
βI had a dream, that Iβll be an anime voice actor.β
Do you know any other black anime voice actors? Why do you think we donβt see many black anime voice actors? Have you ever wanted to voice in an anime? Tell us in the comments.
That aside, the color of any talent's skin is completely irrelevant for off camera roles. Either you've got the sound the directors are looking for (usually similar to the Japanese VA) or you don't.
Also, fuck FUNimation and their insertion of politics into their work. Faithful translations of GTFO.

Might be a few I'm missing.
But yeah. We Blacks watch their anime and play their video games. You'd think the anime industry would let us represent more. We're not all "ghetto people." Lil Nas X for example.
If you wanna go political do it elsewhere. The goal of this article isn't to know users opinion on Black people VO, it's to culturally conduct users to a political bias.
Your first line of the article gave it away. There's no reason to distinguish February from any other month.
Unless you're going for stereotypical uncultured black thug, then it doesn't matter in the slightest.
