There’s so much porn on my need to watch list that it’s easy for me to miss or forget something. Sometimes, I don’t even forget about it, I just never have the time to watch it. Well, I’ve always wanted to check out the Meru the Succubus series by SkuddButt, but maybe I’m too late now.

Luckily, I’m not too late, but after I finish all 5 episodes, I might never get anymore. It’s always sad to see a passion project get canceled or see it go into limbo due to money. Money makes the world go round, and you need it if you want things to be made. Skudd points out that finding someone to fund the project has been pretty hard with it having hentai elements, which, I feel like we most could have figured out. It definitely wasn’t the art style or animation that held it back, those were on point. Sex sells, but it’s not the most marketable thing. Someone like Kitty Media might pick it up, but other options are limited or just not well known. If this OVA was more lewd and took out the hentai elements for a more ecchi feel, I think it would be way more easy to see a company pick it up. But I feel like it might lose what made it interesting and different in the first place. But I guess that’s a sacrifice some people are willing to make.

All I can think of is Patreon, since that’s the donating platform everyone uses to help get projects off the ground. Maybe it wouldn’t be the best idea for a long 10 to 12 episode series. Maybe that would take too long to create. Sadly, I feel like the only option is to market it as not a hentai, and remove the sex element. But would it even be Meru the Succubus after that? And how much would long running fans who’s been following it from the start feel about the project removing all the sex? They could get uninterested in the project all together.
