Man, we’ve barely begun the summer season of anime and yet I’m already convinced this is the highest amount of lewd content I’ve seen in a minute without expecting it. Sure every season of anime has a couple of ecchi moments here and there, but it seems like I can’t go five minutes without seeing some clips or images of a new summer anime that’s already delivered a bit of fanservice. Recently I just got done watching the first episode of the second season of Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and a new character has arrived. Let’s just say she has some strong assets in the chest area, as you can probably tell from this article’s cover image.

So far I’ve seen lewd content from Peach Boy Riverside, Kobayashi, The Detective is Already Dead, Bokutachi no Remake (albeit a little bit), and Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei. Hell, keep in mind I’ve only watched two of those anime, the rest are from randomly stumbling across them on the Internet. What I’m trying to figure out is who let open the floodgates on ecchi content cause that's a decent amount already and I fully expect more to come as anime continue to start releasing. My first theory was that Japan subscribed to the whole “summer of love” vibe and perhaps this was typical for the season to receive a high dosage of ecchi content. I then proceeded to go back through the archives on AniChart to see what came out in the summer for the past four years or so, and results were mixed. Sure some lewder anime were in there (or just ones with lewd moments) but it wasn’t the large amount that I had anticipated. My second theory is damn maybe it was merely luck that a lot of anime that aren’t afraid to display ecchi stuff ended up scheduled for the same season.

Whatever the reason, it seems apparent that many summer anime aren’t afraid to get a little dirty here and there this time around. Personally I always go straight to doujins or hentai and skip the middleman, but many doujins are in fact inspired by the lewd shit that more popular anime are promoting so I’m hoping that means a boost in, *cough*, “ideas”.
