Eat smarter, play harder, and think faster. Every TRUE male wants to achieve greatness for themselves, but in this day and age, how do you do that? Do you walk the path of the alpha male, dominating the gym and everyone in it by drinking four protein shakes a day? You could, but you’re different my dear reader. You’re a special breed of male who wants to dominate using only his massive brain cells and lone wolf street smarts rather than idiotic brute force. And lucky for you, you can figure out how to become the sigma you’ve always wanted to be and fuck bitches/get money on a weekly basis. And all you have to do is think like Light Yagami baby.

Male self help has been a pretty prominent corner of the Internet, especially on YouTube for several years now. However, as time goes on and anime seeps itself into literally everywhere (anyone see that Attack on Titan x Call of Duty collab?), you start finding some pretty ridiculous crossovers. Lately Kinky and I saw someone complaining about how many “Think like LIGHT and UNLOCK your true POTENTIAL” videos were floating around. Sure enough, it’s a pretty stupid idea if you know Light’s character at all. My man is definitely an intelligent character, but with that package comes a severe lack of empathy, dubious amounts of power corruption, and a childlike sense of justice. Also while Light is great at attracting some girls in the anime, trying to act like him in real life will probably only end with you receiving an array of restraining orders. I can only assume these videos are more focused on encouraging guys to improve their deductive ability since that’s one of Light’s few positive traits that won’t get you banned for trying to incorporate into your own mental processes. For example if you find out a girl hates Overwatch or Team Fortress 2, you can probably deduce they don’t like hero shooters in general and not waste time by trying to get them to play Valorant or something. Thinking like that can help avoid some shitty conversations that those without social skills may find themselves falling into. I love fighting games and Genshin Impact, but unless those hobbies come up naturally on a first date I won’t be saying “OH MY GOD THE NEW TRAILER JUST DROPPED GIRL, YOUR THOUGHTS???”.

I can think of a few things. A certain notebook, for one.

Zooming out the scope to end us off here, this is apart of a wider discussion that many people don’t have good character literacy skills to begin with, which leads to videos like this where iconic characters such as Walter White, Light Yagami, and Lelouch Lamperouge are applauded for their strength and idolized. Whereas if you’ve seen any of their related source material, these men all commit some atrocities to where they would be hated if they existed in the real world. This may be a topic for another day, so for now I’ll just say it’s probably not wise to model yourself after very morally questionable characters whose flaws are damning (even if that’s what makes them so well written and interesting). Are you on the path to becoming an enlightened sigma male? Have you noticed people tend to idolize characters that they probably shouldn’t?
