Oshi No Ko English Dub Is BAD??!!

Oshi no Ko has been doing great when it comes to rankings and reception. People are loving it, and everyone is already celebrating the announcement of it getting a season 2. At this point, it looks like Oshi no Ko can do no wrong. Well, almost no wrong. Oshi no Ko just recently received an English dub, and everyone is ripping it a new one. Also, if you haven’t watched Oshi no Ko’s first episode, beware that spoilers are ahead.

Now some people are defending the VAs saying that everyone's performance is good, but they were just miss casted, mainly Ai. Now listening to some of these lines and delivery, I can say that some of them may be right about that statement, but I do think some of the delivery and maybe the scripting were bad. I don’t think the VAs are completely horrible, I’ve heard actual horrible voice acting before in a game called Tale of Food.

But, I feel like the English dub has a long road ahead of it. People are already putting this show on a pedestal, so even if the dub is decent, people are going to flame the show. People are already in love with the Japanese performance and actors. You’re going to have to be compared to that, which is always a challenge for anime English dubs. Maybe it will get better as the cast get more comfortable with their characters, or, it will keep being a funny train wreck that’s enjoyable to watch and laugh at. At least the English version of the song is a banger

Do you think the English dub for Oshi no Ko is bad? Do you think the voice acting for Tale of Food is bad? Do you think the Oshi no Ko English dub will get better as it goes on? Tell us in the comments.

Yeah, at least from those clips it just sounds like a somewhat mediocre script combined with voice acting that ranges from slightly-above-average to wooden. And as said, this show is already being hyped and put on a pedestal, so voice-acting that would otherwise seem fairly average is deemed a grating ear-bleeding sin upon humanity.

Ai actually doesn't sound half bad to be honest. Like, the sub definitely blows her WAY out of the water, but on its own I think it's a solid performance. At least in the scene we saw. Otherwise... it's just mainly a bad script and a few spots here and there with bad delivery. On the whole it's not awful or anything. Just needed a better script and some re-takes.

I think the English in the first one was actually better, sounds rougher and less polished. The Japanese woman is the equivalent of Morgan Freeman doing the Morgan Freeman voice while holding a dead kid; sure it sounds great, but it comes off artificial because they have a freaking dead kid. Let the perfectly practiced voice crack a little.

Watch things in their original languages or you're a philistine. Simple as.

I feel it's mildly unfair to compare the Ai voice actors. The Japanese one is a long tenured legend that's in everything because she's good at everything.

The English one is... Someone.
