Mahiro Kisaragi Vs. Twitter
By Kasaix • 6 years ago

Twitter is a powerful social media tool. It can be used for good or evil. Many times both at once. Or neither. It's primarily used by stupid people to entertain other stupid people. In many such instances, it can be used to promote goods and services, as in the case of Mahiro Kisaragi, a popular light novel author.

Mahiro Kisaragi spent ¥45,266, about $425 in US currency, to promote a tweet about his upcoming novel series Yamamoto Isoko no Ketsudan. The tweet was deleted by Twitter, citing “advertising adult content or services”, despite the series being for all ages and the covers showing nothing perverted. After some back and forth with Twitter, Kisaragi went straight to Twitter's head office in Tokyo Square Garden in Japan, and documented his experiences in a series of tweets

"Good morning. According to a previous notice, today I entered Twitter Japan’s head office in Kyobashi where Tokyo Square Garden is located. The bare concrete of Kyobashi Station’s Ginza Line platform gives off the atmosphere of a collapsed civilization.”

Light novel authors are not to be trifled with. Despite his efforts, he found himself with only two options: file an opposition letter to be sent overseas to Twitter’s corporate headquarters, or file a lawsuit.

However, this whole event may have given him what he wanted all along. His fight against injustice attracted enough attention to push his series to Amazon's top ten best sellers, as detailed in another tweet.

We're not certain what path he's going to take as it concerns Twitter's poor form on his behalf, but it may have been money well-spent either way.

Do you think Twitter was wrong to pull the tweet? Do you think Kisaragi launched his campaign just to attract attention to his series? Discuss in the comments below.
