And the controversy keeps coming for Interspecies Reviewers! As if being dropped by several streaming services and TV channels wasn't enough already, it's recieved enough complaints that the series is under investigation.

The Broadcasting Ethics & Program Improvement Organization's (BPO) is a Japanese non-profit, non-governmental organization that aims to uphold a certain level of quality when it comes to TV broadcasts, aiming to encourage freedom of speech and expression while maintaining high ethical standards. They take in opinions and complaints from the public regarding what's on TV and, if a program breaches their standards, may recommend steps for the broadcaster to take in order to improve the quality of their programming.

The BPO Committee for Youth Programming is the wing that focuses on programs that target young people. At their last meeting, they discussed comments sent in regarding Interspecies Reviewers. The public's concerns regarding the program include its vulgar humor, objectification of women, and, even if it is broadcast after midnight, it's entirely possible for the kiddies to watch it and see some monster tiddy when mom & dad are asleep.

The fact that the show got cancelled probably didn't do it any favors, either. The committee's members also concluded that the show's glorification of sex work is an issue, and will discuss the matter further in their next meeting. Until then, the committee agreed to watch the show themselves to get a better opinion on it before deciding whether or not to take any further measures.

While this shows that this particular series is a hot topic even among the Japanese public (especially parents), it's unlikely they'll take any significant action since the series is almost at an end. Either way, I personally find the idea of a bunch of stuffy moral guardians huddled around a screen trying to find things to complain about in an ecchi series hilarious.
