Funimation Drops Interspecies Reviewers
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

I know I'm not the only one out here that's been enjoying Interspecies Reviewers lately. A show that rates different varieties of monster girls based on their lewdness? That's the fucking dream, right there. But it turns out the series is too lewd for some people; namely Funimation.

Since its debut on January 11, Interspecies Reviewers was simulcast on Funimation with both dub and sub options. However, shortly before the broadcast of the fouth episode, Funimation removed the series from their website without warning. A statement released to Anime News Network gives their side of the story:

"After careful consideration, we determined that this series falls outside of our standards. We have the utmost respect for our creators so rather than substantially alter the content, we felt taking it down was the most respectful choice."

In other words, instead of choosing to censor the anime, they took it down entirely. It's a given that people would've been mad either way, but it only begs the question: why did they license such a sexy series only to cancel it for being too sexy? To be fair, it's possible Funi didn't know just how graphic it was. If you've read the manga, you'll know that the anime went even further in certain scenes.

In any case, it's now a bit more difficult (but not impossible) to stream the show in the west now. Or you can sign a petition and demand Funi reinstate the series. Hey, it could work. Anyway, we'll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
