Funimation Drops Interspecies Reviewers

I know I'm not the only one out here that's been enjoying Interspecies Reviewers lately. A show that rates different varieties of monster girls based on their lewdness? That's the fucking dream, right there. But it turns out the series is too lewd for some people; namely Funimation.

Since its debut on January 11, Interspecies Reviewers was simulcast on Funimation with both dub and sub options. However, shortly before the broadcast of the fouth episode, Funimation removed the series from their website without warning. A statement released to Anime News Network gives their side of the story:

"After careful consideration, we determined that this series falls outside of our standards. We have the utmost respect for our creators so rather than substantially alter the content, we felt taking it down was the most respectful choice."

In other words, instead of choosing to censor the anime, they took it down entirely. It's a given that people would've been mad either way, but it only begs the question: why did they license such a sexy series only to cancel it for being too sexy? To be fair, it's possible Funi didn't know just how graphic it was. If you've read the manga, you'll know that the anime went even further in certain scenes.

In any case, it's now a bit more difficult (but not impossible) to stream the show in the west now. Or you can sign a petition and demand Funi reinstate the series. Hey, it could work. Anyway, we'll keep you updated on this story as it develops.

Animelab took over Interspecies Reviewers

Yep the case when Funimation forgets to read the damn manga themselves prior to translating it.

MY BROTHERS, THE STATE WANTS TO TAKE OUR WAIFUS AND HENTAI AWAY FROM US, I SAY LET THEM TRY, WE WILL BURN THE ROMAN EMPIRE OF THE WEST ADN WE WILL KILL ALL OF THE BARBARIANS OF THE EAST. NO ONE, IN THE NAME OF SENKO-SAN AND MY TRUSTED STEED CENTOREA SHIANUS, WILL EVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM US WITH SPILLING BLOOD FIRST.

It's actually hilarious that it got licensed by funi based on the first episode alone. They review brothels and discuss sex and Funi of all places got it. It was a failure from the get and it's just sad

This is one of those scenarios where it is better to let it die or hope Sentai picks it up. Funimation already has a bad rep and it took fans uncensoring it to even be good. Its better they acknowledge its not for them and let others do it right.

To be honest, I'm not exactly surprised. I saw an episode of this anime and boy was it raunchy. I'm not against the idea necessarily but I can kinda understand Funimation dropping this particular entry. But at the same time, they did Panty & Stocking so a bit of the impact feels a tad hypocritical, for lack of a better term.

It dose suck that they took it down. But when you think about it, interspecies review is way more sexually graphic than anything else they have ever licensed. Even when compared there other raunchy comedy like Panty & Stocking, Valkyrie Drive, Highschool DxD, or Prison School, nothing gets this sexually graphic. On top of that they were advertising it next to My Hero Academia.

Probably thought it was just something naughty but harmless like Senran Kagura.

FUNi has the tendency to license whatever's not attached to the ground without doing any research first. (I knew the show was gonna be bad news since FUNi had licensed it.)

This is a case where "2 wrongs don't make it right." And I don't know if it's Japan's anime industry choosing what to send the US or if it's the choice of licensers.

Maybe now Japanese producers would learn to stay away from those Funibastards
