Good Bye Akira Toriyama

It's so crazy that you never really think about someone passing until it actually happens. I wake up everyday thinking that Toriyama is working on the next Dragon Ball Super chapter, or helping out with the next Dragon Ball movie, but here we are. Akira Toriyama truly is a man that we all have to thank for where we are now. I can’t even imagine what anime would be like here in America, without his influence. I feel like everyone can safely say that Dragon Ball Z is the anime that awakens many people's love for anime.

Toriyama’s art style was unique, and you can notice it with just a glance. It was actually the first art style I tried to imitate when I tried drawing. Rectangle eyes with big connecting eyebrows. Spiky hair, with a muscle body type. It was how I started and I feel like a lot of people started drawing anime art because of him, even if we didn’t keep at it. You can always notice Toriyama’s art style, examples like Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon, Dragon Quest, and Tobal No.1. just to name a few.

How many of ya'll know this one?

And when a man can make a generation of young kids want to go super saiyan and yell at the top of their lungs like that would actually make it work. That’s when you know you’ve made it big.

And the big three mangakas, such as Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece, Masashi Kishimoto, creator of Naruto, and Tite Kubo,  creator of Bleach, even had things to say.

No matter what you might think about Dragon Ball as a series or medium, as an art form, it changed history, a history that I now love and many others around the world do. The man was amazing at what he did and created. He will always be remembered as the man who changed the way people viewed anime and manga. Speaking of Dragon Ball and how it changed everything. This is a porn site, so let’s not forget to thank the man for all the amazingly hot waifus that he created and we get to enjoy in doujin form.

How did you feel after learning of Akira Toriyama’s passing? Did Dragon Ball change your life? Who is your favorite Dragon Ball waifu? Tell us in the comments.

It's kind of bitterly fitting that Akira Toriyama would pass away during the year of the dragon.

I have to admit that I fully expected Masako Nozawa (i.e. Goku's Jp va) to predecease him since she's 87 to his "mere" 68, or even Gundam's Yoshiyuki Tomino since he had some sort of health scare a few years ago.

Huh... that means that of the big names who made manga "big", only Go Nagai is left.

This is shocking, Dragon Ball and it's related offshoots made my afterschool childhood in both English and Spanish. RIP Legend.

The length and breath of Toriyama's work can't be understated. He created tropes, narrative devices, and style that many manga/anime wouldn't have gotten very far without. His own works are vast, but his inspiration reached further, and so much wouldn't exist without him.

DBZ was one of my gateway anime, 18 was best girl, and I will always love this man for what he gave all of us. The defining Shonen of Dragon Ball, the character designs of the Dragon Quest games, and the inspiration to other mangakas that allowed them to rise.
RIP Akira Toriyama. Work hard, study well, and eat and sleep plenty. That is the Turtle Hermit way.

There are very few people whose works end up truly having a global appeal. I still remember vol 1 of Dragonball and how Akira was pretty much "Eh, we'll see what happens." Look where your IP is now lmao.

When I was six, the only anime I watched was Digimon because it was in the same tv block as Power Rangers, and I would watch them back to back. My dad wanted me to expand my interest, and showed me Dragon Ball. While not my first anime, it holds a place in my heart as the first one my dad and I enjoyed together. I hope his DRAGON SOUL gets to fist bump King Kai

Bulma was my no. 1 waifu from DB/DBZ/DBS for years...

Then along came Cheelai.

R.I.P, Toriyama-dono.

Not the biggest DBZ fan, but I have sympathy for all this.

I wish that either Christopher Sabat, Monica Rial, Sarah Wiedenheft, Sean Schemmel, Sonny Strait, or Greg Ayers had died instead of Akira Toriyama.
