Dragon Ball Super Mangaka Toyotarou Accused of Tracing

A new impact was made in the Dragon Ball universe, but it wasn't Jiren and Goku fighting it out. Toyotaro, the mangaka behind Super, and Akira Toriyama's chosen successor, has been accused of tracing. We're not artists ourselves here, so we're not certain of the major repercussions if this proves to be true, but people are up in arms over it. So...what happened?

(Toyotaro)

This all started with a cover, seen below. Take note of SSB Goku's pose.

A tweet from someone pointed out the similarities between Goku's pose, and a pose from Marvel's Captain America.

Another tweet showed an overlap of the two and pointed out some similarities.

So, is it coincidence, homage, or tracing? We're not passing any judgement right now. Toyotaro is known for his love of Dragon Ball, drawing the Z Fighters for many years even before he was officially hired by Shueisha to draw various official DB manga, including Resurrection F, and after drawing a couple of pages for Super, Toriyama chose him as his successor.

What do you think? Did Toyotaro trace Cap for a cover, or is this a bunch of nothing? Let us know in the comments below!

Ah this pose owning attitude is becoming more common. There is only a limited motion range on humans and it applies to drawings as well people. You can only do so much with the human body before it looks too uncanny. Worse still people have been drawing forever and the digital age allows them to be captured for a longer time so you are going to find more and more of the same poses.

I'm assuming he used it as reference, actually quite common.

Tracing is a no-no, given it pretty much shows you are not doing the work. If one is using a reference to draw the characters, that is different, for artists use references to draw poses, expressions, etc. So if he was tracing, he should be fired. If he was using references, it's okay.

Something that I'm not seeing most people point out, is that it's cover art. So I would have to guess that he had to do it in a sudden hurry. And the muscles matching a bit is fine because they are both supposed to be peek muscle build (in terms of fighting.). And again. There are only so many good poses, and he had to work with the position he was given for the cover.

Not sure what tracing is, but the legs, arms, and torso are similar. However, differences such as the finger positions exist too. However, assuming that Toyotaro even saw the Captain America comic, at best it had some influence on positioning. As ZeOmega mentioned there are only so many positions the human body can take. Especially to see MC's face and back at the same time while facing opponent

Just get back to making the manga.

is that really important ? I'm sure if we search in all mangas and comic books there will be many poses that looks alike.
So, who care.
