Do You Give A Shit About Manga Adaptations?
By WakeUpSnooze • 3 years ago

Usually when we use the word “adaptation” here on the site, we’re referring to a manga that is receiving an anime. Sometimes a light novel or game can be adapted into an anime too. However, what I’m surprised to see is that sometimes we can play an Uno reverse card and switch it up to where a manga is being created from an anime, and I have to ask: why? Recently it was announced that Sk8 The Infinity, the original anime from director Hiroko Utsumi will be receiving a manga adaptation in March.

Now don’t get me wrong I would understand if this was a spin-off series or something. But as far as I can tell it plans to adapt the anime faithfully. Now I read manga as much as the next guy (assuming you count doujins) but only cause I’m forced to. If hentai came out at a faster rate and covered my desired fetishes more often you can bet your ass I would be heading over to hentai0 everyday instead of doujins.com. Right now though doujins offer much more variety and release at a much faster pace so until that changes I’m riding steady. Point is I love manga/doujin to anime/hentai adaptations. But what’s the point of going from an anime to a manga? You lose the animation, the coloring, the soundtrack, and the voice acting. Like I mentioned it would make sense if this was a spinoff made in manga form to cover some plot points or character moments that aren’t portrayed in the anime for a much cheaper cost, but it appears that’s not the case.

Black and white just wouldn't do it justice, my man is sk8ting on metaphorical ice right now!

Racking my brain I can’t conjure up a single scenario where there’s an animal original that I’d say “eh, this medium is alright, but I’d rather read the same content in manga format”. It’s like an evolutionary step backwards in my opinion. Normally the advantages of manga reading are that it’s less time consuming, you can avoid spoilers by staying current with the series, and no content is cut or altered because it’s the source. When the original source IS the anime, there’s no fear about spoilers or content cuts so it’s down to whether you want the advantage of speed reading. I do understand that time is short that’s for damn sure. That being said I’ll gladly take the pros of anime even if it takes a bit longer to digest. Stopping to smell the roses and all that.

Ah yes, nothing like catching up on the latest release of SHONEN.

One thing is for sure, even though people are saying this anime is pretty clean and actually enjoyable, ya boi won't be waiting in line at Barnes & Noble to pick me up a manga copy. What are your thoughts on original anime receiving a manga adaptation? Is it a waste of time, or is there an advantage I didn’t touch on?
