Demon Slayer Movie Review... Finally
By WakeUpSnooze • 3 years ago

At long fucking last, the Demon Slayer movie has made its way to theaters over here in America in subbed and dubbed versions. Of course, Kinky and I had to display our culture and watch the subbed version. I come to you today to try and give a very condense, spoiler free review of the movie and to answer whether or not it was worth seeing in theaters.

I think it’s pretty clear who the Demon Slayer fans are, am I right? It’s people who like gorgeous animation and hype moments. The writing has never been the ultimate strong suit of Demon Slayer for me. It’s certainly not terrible, but it’s not very unique even for a shounen. If you’re going into this movie with the expectation of “okay, NOW the writing is going to blow my bind and teach me some life lessons” you’re better off saving money. The most you’ll get is those basic shounen lessons, for example “Strong people should protect weak people” and “Being bad is bad”. That aside, if you’re coming into this movie for the cinematic experience your dick is about to be rock hard. The directing really has that big budget movie feel and rest assured there’s plenty of action in this bitch. Hell I thought the movie was about to be over and they said “fuck you, here’s 20 more minutes of action”. It’s all beautifully animated and the OST blaring through the cinema speakers gives it that extra punch (maybe a bit too much punch at times, man that shit was loud). Overall I gave the movie an 8/10, which is the highest I can go for a movie that doesn’t really impact my mind or heart that much. I will say while the writing was basic, it did make me enjoy Tanjiro as a protagonist a lot more because the movie does a great job of showing off his conviction to stop Muzan and the demons.

Tanjiro ready to slice up people talking during the movie.

From what I can tell, if you enjoyed Demon Slayer the anime then you’ll love this shit. It’s more of the same banging music and amazing visuals that made the anime so popular in the first place. Those searching for a really long episode of Demon Slayer that lives up to the grand, cinematic atmosphere should be pleased. If you thought the anime was a bit lackluster on the writing side and was hoping the movie would take some time to say some big brain philosophies or give the characters a bunch of depth, I’d say you can go ahead and skip it, or wait to see it another way.

Talk to the hand.

Alright, I think you get the gist. If you guys have any questions about the movie that I didn’t answer feel free to ask away and I’ll answer. Are you planning on seeing the movie in theaters? Did you watch the Demon Slayer anime? Practice your breathing in the comments below!
