Now this isn’t me saying that Mario is bad by any means, it’s just I never felt like it was the platforming masterpiece that everyone else seems to think it is.
Might be a clown statement to say, but that’s just my honest opinion on Mario. Yeah when I was younger I really enjoyed it, but as I got older and I played one of the games recently, it didn’t have the same charm it used to have. It’s a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I definitely would rather be playing any other kind of shooter and JRPG.
Might have to start playing this.
I will still give credit where credit is due. I feel like platformers wouldn’t be where they are now without the grandfather Mario stepping in. It might not be my favorite platformer, but it gave birth to some of the amazing platformers we have today. Personally, I’ve always been a Sonic fan more than a Mario fan, and I also enjoy the side Mario games more than the OG Mario games. I will play Mario Party anyday over Super Mario Bros.

All in all, Mario is a good game and enjoyable, but it’s not the 10/10 that people like Dunkey say it is. It will always be the cornerstone in gaming and legendary for what it's done for the industry, but that doesn’t mean you’ll see me wasting money on the next big Mario installment.

Long answer: Absolutely. The games aren't mechanically or graphically or literarily complex but they make up for that in spades with pure developmental competency. Every one is mastercraft in not just being easy to play but teaching you how to play not just itself but other games like it. Every Mario game of it's generation should be required playing for at the least developers.
