Kasaix: Hello Doujin Army! I’d like to introduce you all to another really talented artist: Zapklink. I’ve been following them for a while, and I’m glad to be able to chat with them. The girls are really cute, and the poses are interesting, like with Frieza’s Property. The girls are also varied in forms, which I like to see.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Thanks for taking the time to hang out. How’s it going, Zapklink?
Zapklink: I'm pretty ok, thanks! ^^ A little tired, it's a little late so I'm mostly just relaxing, how are you doing? ^^
Kasaix: Doing good, thanks.
Let’s start at the top, could you tell me how you first got into art?
Zapklink: Oh jeez this is a little embarrassing to say, but its always a story I like to talk about X3
Its a bit of a long story but to put it a bit shortly basically there was this girl I liked in high school which I used to sit next to who I liked, she used to do anime styled artwork in a notebook next to me and well to impress her I decided to try doing artwork as well, of course it was horrible at the time but she seemed to like my silly art lol I even confessed to her using my awful artwork at the time, worked actually lol Afterwards I kinda just continued going as I actually saw improvement and well years later, here I am lol
Kasaix: That is, by far, the most wholesome thing I’ve ever read from a real person. Please tell me you’re still together.
Zapklink: Unfortunately no lol high school relationships sadly tend to rarely last.
But hey, i don't dwell on the ending of that relationship now, years ago you know? ^^ Plus I got someone great and special now.
Kasaix: That’s great. I’m glad. Still the most wholesome thing ever. Back to art, did you go to an art school, or are you all self taught?
Zapklink: Self taught, I failed art class in high school >w<
Was never the best with the concepts they did during it
Kasaix: That’s surprising actually. You’re a terrific artist. I guess the school’s art plan just didn’t work for you.
What are your favorite characters and themes to draw?
Zapklink: My OC count is like in the 60s now lol Love them all but I definitely have so many, I can't really choose a favourite from them honestly. Like an art family to me (Well other than my art discord server that is lol they are th true art family) Of course there are some OCs I draw more and some I draw less but either way I love them dearly, and I'm always loving to continue to add more as I draw more characters.
I definitely love character designing, I can say that.
Of course I can never actually just draw a character once and leave it, I get too connected, it’s why I never do adopts lol
breaks my heart if I'm unable to draw a character again you know? it's why i make my own lol
Kasaix: Over 60? Wow, that’s amazing. And also wholesome. Do you have a mascot character out of the 60+ OCs you have drawn?
Zapklink: Oh yea I do, she's actually my twitter profile pic, her name is Zuiri, name starts with Z to make with Zapklink. I designed her based on each part of my personality.
Skin colour to match my own, she's a raccoon girl as raccoons are one of my fav animals, beret cause I used to do cadets and that had quite the influence on my childhood, plus I just love berets ^^
Blazer for my smart side, bow on a shirt to represent my love of ribbons and bows, the gloves are kinda like what you'd see on idol girls and my love for the design of those characters, skirt just simply cause I like to draw skirts lol
The platform boots as they are my favourite designed shoes(Sadly can't wear them myself, i'd look silly lol maybe in another life) And the knee high socks of different sizes to represent my asymmetrical designs and my randomness
oh and glasses cause glasses are something i love on characters
Kasaix: Wow, that is really well thought out. I like that. Nice work.
Where do you get the inspiration for all your projects?
Zapklink: My friends, life experiences, my rps, they all give me random ideas, some I actually execute, others i just save for later, Sometimes I like to just ask friends for ideas and honestly they are amazing, they truly do give some good ideas at times, art block sucks you know? lol
Kasaix: Yes it does. How long does it typically take you to finish a project?
Zapklink: It really depends on the type of project and how busy I am, smaller ones I can do in a day or 2 while much larger ones can take a max about a week
Kasaix: Nice. What do you feel is your best picture yet, and why?
Zapklink: Honestly I have no idea, I really can't choose, like even my horrible old art I consider my best in another way, like as its another step of progress
Kasaix: I understand completely. Given how much pride you have in your work, and how your OCs are your art family, I can see that being an impossible choice. Is there a project you'd really like to work on in the future?
Zapklink: One day I'd love to be able to draw all my OCs in one massive artwork, sadly I doubt i'll ever be able to, I have so many characters that I don't think i'd be able to do it in one chunk, more likely I'd have to do it in smaller chunks if I even considered it.
Kasaix: I would love to see that. A massive artwork with all your OCs would be great. It would be a hell of an undertaking, but I have faith that you’d be able to pull it off.
What setup do you use to draw?
Zapklink: Currently I do my sketches with pencil and paper, just feel more comfortable doing sketches traditionally than digitally.
The rest is done digitally using my huion tablet monitor, works like a charm and love it, I draw on Clip studio paint for the most part, shifted away from my old paint tool sai, just more features you know? ^^
Kasaix: That’s great, you do sketches by hand on pencil and paper. Old school is best school.
Where does your username come from?
Zapklink: Oh its an old username I made up when I started playing black ops in like 2010 or something, the Zap was my love of the electric type in pokemon at the time (Though its now my 3rd fav type) while the klink was my love of the steel type in pokemon (now 4th fav type) I just started using it more and more everywhere and it just stuck
Kasaix: Discussing Pokemon types was never on the schedule, but now my interest is piqued: what are your first two favorite types?
Zapklink: Ghost 1st, Fairy 2nd
Ghost just because I love the designs of ghost types (I love gothic designs), and also cause its just an amazing type.
Fairy mostly because my favourite pokemon is Clefairy lol
Kasaix: I'm a Pichu fan myself. Pichu is just so cute.

Zapklink: Love me some Pichu, I enjoy playing them in smash a lot, definitely better than pikachu x3
