An Interview with Dmitrys
By Yung Namahage • 3 years ago

Yung: Hellloooo Doujin Army, and welcome to yet another interview with an extremely talented artist! This time in the hotseat we have the excellent Dmitrys, a 33-year-old Russian artist based in Australia with a penchant for futa. Without further ado, let’s kick things off!

So, Dmitrys, how did you get into art?

Dmitrys: I come from an art-adjacent family, so I had no choice, really. I’ve been doodling for as long as I can remember. I guess it was kinda like a form of processing what I saw around myself; movies, nature shows, comics etc.

Yung: And how did you start doing pornographic art?

Dmitrys: Porn art was kinda the same, processing my sexuality and urges and expressing them in art. Saw a bunch of hentai on 4chan back in 2007-8 and thought I could do better. It’s a form of therapy I guess, also connecting with the world through the internet, getting reactions and feedback is a big deal for an introverted person in a new country and culture.

Yung: Interesting, so what inspires you as an artist?

Dmitrys: My dick, like a compass arrow. If we’re talking artists then the Japanese artist Falcoon, I think he was the biggest push for me to start drawing. At the time his stuff was like nothing I saw before and I wanted to emulate him. Also, Frank Frazetta if we’re talking early influences.

Later there were people I met on DeviantArt and Hentai Foundry. These friendships grew over time and I still talk with them even if I don’t post on DA or HF. There’s also Veronika Zemanova and Milena Velba, but that’s just my taste in the female body.

Yung: What are your favorite characters and themes to draw?

Dmitrys: It changes all the time depending on my mood. What I really like is when I’m challenged to tell a narrative with a still image, when there is a chance for visual communication, that’s what gets me excited nowadays! Interactions between characters gets me going; conveying mood and feelings without text. Not sure if I’m good at it but that’s what I’m excited to get better at.

Everything else is details, and I’m pretty happy to draw all kind of characters, body types and situations. Characters are really more like actors, so if I have an idea for a certain theme, certain characters fit better than others.

Yung: Do you have any original characters you’d like to mention?

Dmitrys: Too many to name, but Peach is a fan favorite, and family.

Yung: What do you feel is your best picture yet, and why?

Dmitrys: My best picture is probably the last one I drew, at any given moment. I hate the feeling of not giving my all, so I try to make myself happy with every picture. Even if it’s something simple, at least one element will be the best version of what I’ve drawn to date, if that makes sense.

Yung: Definitely! And how long does it usually take you to finish a project?

Dmitrys: Due to perfectionism, too long. That’s a constant struggle of mine.

Yung: Do you have any plans for the future?

Dmitrys: Live to see the end of 2020, I think that’s as far as I can plan for now. But you know, I’ll keep doing my thing. Holla holla get that dolla and all that. My plan is to keep bringing good vibes into the world.

Yung: I can appreciate that. What setup do you use to draw?

Dmitrys: PC with dual monitor, Intuos tablet, latest Photoshop with some use of Clip Studio. I use 3d with complex scenes and perspective, and I’m learning a bit of blender on the side.

Yung: Where did you get your username from?

Dmitrys: My name is Dmitry and S is the first letter of my surname.

Yung: Alright, that should be everything. Do you have any final words you’d like to share?

Dmitrys: Don’t be a coomer, life and porn are two very different things. Keep an eye on what is real and you should be ok!
