When it comes to Weekly Shonen Jump, you expect well…shonens, to be the manga chapters everyone is reading, and the series that’s topping the rankings and keeping a good footing in the magazine. Well, sometimes, you get those weirdos. They might still be called shonen’s by name, but action and fights are far from them. Today, I wanted to talk about Akane-banashi.

Now, do I know anything about Akane-banashi? No, not really. But, I’ve always been interested in it when I’m doing my weekly reading of Chainsaw Man part 2. I’m always seeing Akane-banashi on the side and always wondered, what the hell is that series about, and why do people like it so much?

Well, the quick and simple of it is that it’s a rakugo coming of age story. So if you’re a big fan of either one of those two, then this might actually be a series you’d be into. But let’s be honest, how many of us American manga readers are into rakugo, or even know what it is? I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of rakugo, but done right, it can be interesting. Like one of my favorite series, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju.

This gives me huge Bakuman vibes, and that’s a good thing. I feel like it being in a manga format at this point is my only reason for not checking it out. I’m just not that into manga like I used to be, but, with how popular it is and not getting the ax after 70+ chapters. I wouldn’t be surprised if it got an anime sooner or later. Which might also generate some lewds of it?
