Waifubots Are Now a Reality
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

The cyberpunk hellscape we live in isn't all that bad. Sure, nature is burning up while people are arguing in favor of a certain megacorporation being allowed to stifle the entertainment industry but now we're one step closer to bringing anime waifus from the second dimension to our own.

Swedish company Furhat Robotics have unveiled their latest project, a collaboration with Bandai Namco to create a robot designed after Vocaloid's Mirai Komachi. Check it out for yourself here:

While it's just a talking head at this point, they're looking to see where this technology can be used in the future. Furhat have already created robots to assist with travel, conduct job interviews and work in a medical setting so it'll be interesting to see what'll become of this project. Imagine an animatronic mannequin designed to look like an anime character, or a Madame Tussauds-style exhibit where you can meet and converse with characters from a show. Maybe it could be used by law enforcement in a peacekeeping application in case of riots, where it's intentionally designed to look non-threatening? Perhaps there'll be a Vocaloid concert one day with robot idols performing on stage instead of holograms or premade animations. Is it too early for a fully functional sexbot? Even if it's just a head, I can imagine a couple of uses it could have if it had a functional mouth. Whatever it is, I can't wait for robot GFs to finally be a real thing, and this is a step in the right direction.

What do you think of Furhat's Mirai Komachi robot? Where do you think it could be used? Would you ever buy a sexbot if it looked like your anime waifu? Let us know what you think!
