Thirsty Fangirls Are Saving Tokyo Revengers, and I'm a Grateful Boy
By WakeUpSnooze • 2 years ago

Okay perhaps saving is a bit of an overstatement as the manga was performing alright once the anime started anyway. Tokyo Revengers was a top anime last season that focuses on the young Takemichi as he tries to use time travel to rewrite the gang conflicts in his city and avoid a timeline where his past girlfriend is killed after being caught up in the middle of things. What the description doesn’t tell you is that this show has some MAJOR homies. I enjoyed just about every male character in the show. Even the wimpy lame bois had their moment to shine in season one and prove that they had the balls to stand up for their friends, even if it meant receiving some ass beating. What I didn’t expect, is that major homie vibes would translate into major husbando vibes for girls.

Reports indicated that sales were around 10 million before the anime aired. After the premiere, copies in circulation shot up to 25 million over the course of June. Kodansha sales department's Takuya Watanabe directly indicated that a large portion of the increased sales were from female readership and suspected it was because of the handsome male characters in the series. In fact, the marketing firm of AMF determined that Tokyo Revengers was the second most popular trending word among Japanese middle and high school girls for large portions of early 2021. This means incredible things for the series. For the longest time it was listed on AniChart to be slated for 12 episodes, however that appears to be long forgotten as that has been erased and fans are stating that we’re getting a full 24 episodes now. Additionally a live action movie is in the works. Normally I’m against those bad boys with a passion, but even I have to admit that they did a good ass job of making the actors look similar to their manga counterparts so far.

God damn, y'all pass the vibe check this time.

At the end of the day it’s always refreshing to see girls hopping in on the horny train. I mean, I guess they could also be enjoying it cause the good boys of the show are gangsters who still have values and respect women. Let’s be real though it’s probably cause they’re hot and strong as fuck. Whatever the reason, I for one am grateful for this boost in support and hope that the series continues off from the strong foundation that the first 12 episodes built up. Now I say we all come together as one and request present-day timeline doujins of some of these characters. The potential here is endless, and with the setting being gang conflicts the doujin scripts basically write themselves.

Perhaps a yuri doujin while the boys are off scrapping in the streets? Pretty please?

Alright, that about covers the situation. Hope you guys are ready for summer anime to fire up. Man it’s looking a bit peaked though… at least this anime should still be around. Are you watching Tokyo Revengers? Any girls here that like the anime, if so, why? Run the streets in the comments below!
