These Idols Are Out For Blood!
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

Japan's late teens/yound adult demographic are donating blood a lot less often than they used to, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. So this branch of the government decided to solve the problem in the best possible way: with cute girls!

Meet KKT21, the latest animated idol group on the block. Their name is short for "Kenketsu (Blood Donation) 21st Century", and if it isn't already clear, they're here to encourage young otakus across the country to get down to their local donation center and give up some of that sweet fluid. And, of course, it isn't an idol anime without a song and dance number, so get ready for their debut: "A-B-O-AB! -Ima no Kimi ni Dekiru Koto- (“A-B-O-AB! -The Thing You Can Do Right Now-“). Catch them in action below.

I can't help but wonder why they'd choose an idol group to encourage people to give blood. Sure, stuff like The Idolmaster and Love Live! are insanely popular, especially with the Japanese male otaku demographic that they seem to be going for, but surely it'd make much more sense if they went with a thirsty vampire waifu as their mascot? Maybe it's just me but that's a cause I'd rather get behind if given the choice. Hell, a collab with Cells at Work! would make a lot of sense as well, but you have to give it to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare for going the extra mile and creating their own idols. Time will tell if this initiative is successful or not.

What do you make of KKT21? Have you ever given blood before? Do these idols make you want to donate in the future? Let us know in the comments!
