The History of Satoshi Tajiri Told in Manga Form
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

Every gamer knows the name of Satoshi Tajiri. Together with Ken Sugimori, they made the Pokemon series, the goliath of the gaming industry. It's only fitting that the man whose legacy is turning kids and adults alike into trainers has a biographical manga.

Titled Shogakukan-ban Gakushū Manga Special Pokémon o Tsukutta Otoko Tajiri Satoshi, or in Enligsh Shogakukan Edition Learning Manga Special, Satoshi Tajiri: The Man Who Made Pokémon.

The manga details his upbringing, his interest in collecting insects as a young boy, and his exposure to Space Invaders, which likely triggered his interest in video games. It details his work in the game industry, working with other developers, and even includes commentary from the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto himself.

The 160-page book costs 900 yen (about US $8). It had better come to the US, Pokemon set even the religious people into a frenzy, and resulted in a laughable lawsuit from magician Uri Geller.

A bit of trivia from this veteran trainer. Pokemon Red and Green (Blue came to the US with Red, we wouldn't get a Green version for years), first set the world aflame with Pokemon madness when it released in Japan on 1996.

A bit more trivia, Game Freak, the studio that makes Pokemon, was originally a self-published video game magazine made by Tajiri and Sugimoto in the 1980s.

Well trainers, who wants to see this come to the US?

Gotta Catch 'Em All!

(Satoshi Tajiri)

UPDATE: The first few pages of the manga have come online for free. Among the information that are sure to make PokeFans go nuts are some unused Pokemon designs. Check it out HERE and keep praying to Arceus for a US release.
