Arltie, The Magical Girl - RPG with Lots of Tentacles
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

I found another weird RPG that really caught my attention: Arltie, The Magical Girl. It's a magical girl RPG where the primary enemies are magical girl-seeking tentacles. So yeah, I definitely had to grab it up and play it, especially since the demo alone was free. Magical girls and tentacles seem to go hand-in-hand, so let's take a look.

"One day, Arltie, who acts as a magical girl, heads to a certain
dungeon on an investigation mission given by the deen.
Though excited by the unknown place, she ends up being locked in the dungeon.

While conducting the investigation, she finds the dungeon to be a den of tentacles."

Arltie gets an order from her...deen? to go explore this dungeon. She finds out it's full of tentacles, and gets locked in. Simple setup, but it's still a good-looking game. The circle QRoss made a good game, and the demo has enough to entice.

The art, as you can see, is great. The normal game style has a retro-inspired look, which is nice. The combat itself is simple:

- Battle with A key
Arltie casts a fire spell by pressing the A key.
You can defeat monsters so easily that you have to only press A key,
but beware that using magic reduces a bar displayed in the top of the screen.
The bar indicates her magic energy remaining; she can't use magic without it.

- Command Battle
When she touches a tentacled monster moving, a command battle begins.

- Gimmicks
On each level, there are events for her to clear in order to get the next level.
Solve set-ups and run away from monsters chasing after her to go deeper.

- Lewdness Bar
Seeing an event scene increases her lewdness level.
It makes Arltie's silhouette displayed on the screen gradually turned pink.
This has something to do with the ending.

There's no word on an english patch yet, but it appears to be popular, and it's definitely well-made, so there's hope.
