Steam's Acceptance (And Promotion?) Of Sex Games
By WakeUpSnooze • 1 week ago

There was a time where popular games containing lewd content like Huniepop were big targets for Valve to take off their giant platform Steam. This was many years ago when they feared that adult content would ruin their legitimacy as a game marketplace platform. It wasn’t really a surprise back then as many believed in the long term view pushed by the media that video games have no business containing violence or sex. Nowadays though we’ve pushed past that with huge releases like Witcher 3 and the GTA series proving that your games can contain those naughty actions and still sell amazingly well. So much so that we’re now seeing a complete reversal of Valve’s handling of lewd games on Steam.

At the time of writing I headed over to the New and Trending section to see what titles were listed. Out of the ten titles listed, three were tagged as containing sexual content. Two of those had the hentai tag (yessir, go weebs). And once I scrolled down to the bottom and saw the Top New Releases section for March, I was immediately blasted by a Chinese dating sim game tagged for sexual nudity. Upon further investigation I saw that three of the twelve releases promoted for March were tagged with that classic sexual nudity baby. Note that these three games were all different sexcapades from the aforementioned ones on the New and Trending section. We’ve gone from Valve issuing takedowns to developers of popular naughty games to actively promoting them to users who are old enough to play them. Perhaps this timeline isn’t so bad after all.

Essentially as long as the game is real and not scamming buyers, receives good reviews and feedback, and explicitly warns players of its contained adult content, it doesn’t appear that Valve will attempt to have it removed from the store. Gone are the days of having to visit risky ass websites or clicking on dubious downloads to obtain a porn game. Welcome to the future where such content is featured on the front page right next to AAA titles. Nothing wrong with acceptance that sex sells and isn’t some inherently evil concept that will corrupt Americans everywhere. Have you noticed the surge of sex games on Steam? Have you found any new lewd games you enjoy on the platform? Did you expect Valve to 180 their previous stance so much in the past few years? Boot up Steam, find your waifu, and brag about her hot ass nude scenes in the comments below!
