South Korea's Sex Park
By Kasaix • 6 years ago

Jeju Island is the largest island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula, and the main island of Jeju Province of South Korea. After the Korean War, it became a popular honeymoon destination for Korean couples, due to the island's warm climate and Cold War-era restrictions on overseas travel. During that time, hotel workers would even act as professional icebreakers. In 2004, Jeju Loveland debuted as a theme park dedicated to sex. The park's website describes the location as "a place where love oriented art and eroticism meet". Due to its nature, you must be 18 years or older to enjoy the main attractions, though it's noted that there's a separate play area for younger park goers with an anime theme.

Jeju Loveland was erected in part to educate newlyweds in sex. A number of these couples are wed in arranged marriages and may not even be familiar with one another.

The park is roughly the size of two football fields with some 140 different erotic sculptures, and takes about an hour to see. Exhibits are cycled every month to feature works by different Korean artists.

While the statues are noted to be quite erotic, the purpose is to entertain and educate. Yes, even the interactive ones. There is also a photo gallery that should prove quite educational.

The park welcomes visitors to enjoy and learn in the act of love-making, with statues such as these made for taking silly pictures.

According to their site: "Jeju Love Land is a theme sculpture park based on sensuality and eroticism. Twenty artists, mainly graduates of top art school Hongik University, helped open it in November 2004. It was the first such museum in Korea at that time. The spacious park (39,667m²) is home to over 140 sculptures (40 within the gallery and 100 outside). The park as a whole looks like a piece of land art.

Jeju Love Land is open every day. It usually takes 30-40 minutes to look around the park. Jeju Love Land houses a glass-dome restaurant, an outdoor café, an art shop, and various works which visitors can touch. Jeju Love Land is an attractive place where art and eroticism meet in cool, fun, humorous styles."

Admissions is 9,000 won for an adult, which translates to $8.28 in USD and 8,000 won for a group, which translates to $7.36 in USD. For more on this very fascinating park, visit their main site here.
