Melty Blood Character Designs Are Basic and I Love It
By ImJustThatKinky • 2 years ago

I’ve been waiting for a remake for this game for years. I actually never thought I would get it, but here it is. A remake of Melty Blood called Melty Blood: Type Lumina. I never played the visual novel that the fighting game is based off of Tsukihime, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the fighting game. I love it from it’s fight game mechanics, to how pretty and stylish the game looks. Most fighting game people would agree with me on that front, but what they wouldn’t agree with me on is when I say that not only is the game stylish, but the characters designs are also stylish too. Now that statement would get most fighting game people scratching their heads.

Schoolboy vs Schoolgirl. LET'S ROCK!!!

When you play fighting games, characters are usually wearing something pretty cool and stylized. It’s to give the characters their own unique flair. WIth Melty Blood, they decide to go with the more, down to earth style for its characters. Most of the cast just look like everyday people you’d see walking on the street. No Sol Badguy, only Shiki Schoolboy, and I’m fine with that.

The thing that makes the designs cool to me is not how they look, but the contrast they have with the characters and overall tone of the story. These are regular people with crazy powers. Shiki might be a school boy, but he has a knife and can see and cut people's life lines. Arcueid looks like a normal blonde that you can pick up on the street, but she’s actually a blood thirsty vampire in the sheets. And Shiki’s mentor just rocks a white-t and a pair of jeans, but she can also shoot magic beams from her hands. That’s what makes this shit so cool.

The only thing crazy about her is her red as fuck hair.

So that’s why I love the Melty Blood character designs. Yeah they might be bland and boring, but that’s what makes them cool and unique to the fighting game genre.
