International Anti-Piracy Coalition to Combat Anime & Manga Piracy

A partnership between organizations from 13 different countries with the task of curbing media piracy called the International Anti-Piracy Organization (IAPO) will be forming this April. 


Japan's CODA (Content Overseas Distrbution Assosciation), an organization that assists anime & manga companies including Studio Ghibli, Kodansha, Shueisha, Aniplex, Bandai Namco Arts and more with copyright and distribution, will be one group joining the IAPO. The American Motion Picture Assosciation consisting of Sony Pictures, Netflix, Walt Disney Studios and others will also be joining, plus 450 companies from China.


The IAPO will work with law enforcement across various countries to crack down on and crack down on piracy rings, aiming to eliminate red tape between investigations in different countries and . It's been reported that piracy cost the manga industry in Japan ¥800 billion (US $6.95 billion) from January-October 2021 alone, while official published manga only makes around ¥600 billion (US $5.19 billion) a year.
