Doujin Legend Steps Down From Drawing Evangelion, Studio Khara Reiterate Fanart Guidelines
By Yung Namahage • 3 years ago

Yesterday's news about Studio Khara's attempt to limit lewd Evangelion fanworks sent shockwaves throughout the hentai world. Of all the artists out there that have drawn Eva hentai, few are held in high regard as much as Mogudan, whose doujins, often featuring IMO best girl Rei Ayanami, go back around 15 years.

In response to the guidelines, Mogudan tweeted this image featuring One Punch Man's Tatsumaki, another one of his favorite subjects. It says: "I won't be drawing any more pictures of Ayanami. There won't be any new releases even on the fan sites. Thanks for your support. After this I'm going to start drawing other things."

A lot of Mogudan's followers were left distraught yet supportive of this decision, while others insist on telling him that the guidelines only apply to sites like Pixiv and Patreon that allow monetization, so he would still be allowed to post Rei lewds on Twitter. Then again, considering how important respect and honor are in Japanese culture, it's possible he may not wish to dishnor and disrespect Studio Khara by intentionally breaching the guidlines even on other sites. He said that, while he has no plans to delete all his previous works from the internet, he will comply if he were ever asked. In case that happens he plans to compile all of his previous Rei works in a single file for his fans to download, so keep an eye on his Twitter for when it's up (in the mean time, you can check his doujins right here!) He also posted this unfinished picture of a plausibly deniable Rei looking exxxtra thicc as a way of saying farewell to the character.

The end of an era?

Meanwhile, Studio Khara tweeted to clear up any misunderstandings stemming from the guidelines. They say that fanart is a token of appreciation and support, and they never intended to dissuade or prohibit anyone from creating fanworks of any kind, so Khara ask fans to read the full list of regulations to get a clear idea of what they're asking for. After reading the guidelines, artists should "take full responsibility" for their work. A little ominous, but long story short, artists like Mogudan may be able to continue drawing Eva hentai after all.

It'll be interesting to see how or if the landscape of Evangelion fanart changes after this, but what do you guys think? Should more artists join Mogudan in saying goodbye to lewding their Eva waifus? Are Khara simply attempting damage control after backlash stemming from the guidelines? Drop your thoughts below!
