Listen I’m no angry 60 year old man screaming that liking those cartoon boobs will send you all to hell. In most situations fanservice doesn’t do much for me after the gigantic supply of doujins that have built up over the years. That being said it usually doesn’t detract that much from the overall experience either. So what if we spend one episode out of 24 at the beach, just make sure to build a little bit of character here or there. At least show the audience characters interacting that usually don’t have much reason to. And characters wearing hot ass swimsuits that they usually don’t have much reason to. But recently I’ve discovered one form of fanservice that is so overdone, so beat to death, so braindead it makes me want to be dead. And it’s a true classic in the genre.
Stay with me here. Guy sees girl. Guy thinks girl is hot cause OmG dOsE bOObs dOuGH! He starts to approach her for whatever reason. OHHHHHHHHHHHHH dumbass forgot to tie his shoes, or slips on a banana peel, or trips on literally fucking nothing, and somehow manages to land right in the girl’s bosom. Incredible. How does he do it? I’ve seen something exactly copied and pasted like this in so many damn anime to the point where it’s become a pet peeve of mine. Really anytime a guy or girl trips due to divine intervention and lands on someone they’re attracted to I’m just sitting here like ah dammit am I wasting my time here? Who wrote this? Am I ever going to learn anything from this show? Recently the anime that did this was Kobayashi but EVERYBODY CHILL OUT I still love the anime. It was just a dumb moment that was probably satire anyway knowing the circumstances, but it reminded me of my traumatic past experiences with the trope. It’s one thing when a comedy such as Kobayashi does this (especially when it was probably done on purpose to poke fun at the trope) but when “serious” anime try to do it? I die a little inside. That goes double for romance anime that attempt to be serious and then pull a stunt like that.

Maybe I’m simply getting too old and have seen it all before, but hey everyone has a few pet peeves right? In the same way I hate when anime openings have a shot of a character or characters falling into a pool of water or the ocean because we’ve seen that shit approximately 1,000 times. The symbolism has been done so much I instantly just assume the studio was out of ideas on how to convey the character was in a troubled emotional state other than throwing that bitch in some water. But I digress.
