Cheaters Never Prosper: Epic Sues Fortnite Hackers
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

So, any fans of Fortnite in the house of hentai? Given how popular it is, we're going to assume a number of you are raising your hands.

Where there's fun to be had, there's always a few uncouth people looking to cut a profit. Epic has famously already sued two individuals creating and selling hacks for their popular MOBA title last year, with one turning out to be a minor. So who's next up to bat? Golden Modz and Exentric, for producing and selling hacking tools that create an unfair, and unfun, advantage in Fortnite

According to Epic:

“Defendants are cheaters. Nobody likes a cheater…Defendant Lucas not only cheats, he also promotes, advertises, and sells software that enables those who use it to cheat”

Let's just take a look at how bad it is. Golden Modz, whose real name is known and will not be repeated here, has 1.7 million subscribers on YouTube. He also owns a site that distributes hacks for the game, charging as much or more than $200 for them. Epic Games has argued that such mods are illegal and amount to the creation of “unauthorised derivative works of Fortnite by unlawfully modifying the game’s code”. I mean, they're not wrong. But here's the cherry on top of the failure on Golden Modz's part: he responded with confusion when some of his videos were taken down by Epic Games, asserting that other YouTube users have used hacks without repercussions.

So we can go with ye olde "and if you saw other people jumping off a bridge" line, or "everyone else was doing it!", but we don't. They're relics, and I need those special gloves to handle them. Either way, saying that other people were doing it without getting into trouble isn't the best legal defense.

What do you think the outcome is going to be? Will Epic win the case, or will cheaters indeed prosper? Sound off in the comments below!
