Anime Characters Who Don't Open Their Eyes
By ImJustThatKinky • 3 years ago

Something that’s cool, but never really made sense in anime is close eyes. Now I’m not talking about a character closing their eyes. No. I’m talking about when a character walks around with their eyes close. Like never fucking opening them. It’s super cool and mysterious, but man that shit never makes sense.

When I was younger, I never really thought that much of it. It was just a cool thing that some anime characters did. But as I got older, like with most things, I started questioning it. At first, I thought it was just a way to show that the characters were Asain, since their eyes are more slated than Americans. Then I started thinking that it was because the character was blind, but nope, they can see like any other person. And then I learned that it was just something cool to draw on a character no matter how much it doesn’t make sense.

Usually you’d see these kinds of eyes on someone who sort of a villain, or is mysterious in a way. Usually goofy, laid back characters. But when they open their eyes, that’s when you know that they're serious. Gin from Bleach and Hazama for BlazBlue come to mind.

"No more mister nice guy."

Now the real thing is, how do people cosplay these characters? Do they just squit small enough that it looks like they have their eyes closed, or do they say fuck it, keep their eyes open, and close them when their about to take a photo. Either way, I wonder if the whole close eye thing all the time would even look cool in real life. You might just get mad at the person and think that they're never really paying attention to you.

Maybe having your eyes closed in real life would look creepy also.

What do you think of the close eye aesthetic? What anime characters do you think of when you think about characters with close eyes? Would close eyes look cool in real life? Tell us in the comments.
