An Interview with NevanDraws
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello Doujin Army! I’m here with another truly talented artist, the one and only NevanDraws! His style leans more towards the realistic while still having that anime or manga inspiration, which I really like. The girls all look amazing, with proper lighting and shading making them almost alive and ready to pop off the page. He also has good taste in outfits, drawing his girls either skimpy or almost nude, but making them look just as dangerous, as seen in the recent Tifa image

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Thanks for taking the time to hang out. How’s it going, NevanDraws?

NevanDraws: Thanks, well working still

Kasaix: Nice. Let’s start at the top, could you tell me how you first got into art?

NevanDraws: As many artists was for videogames and manga, from a young age I played one of my favorite games the Darkstalkers and from there I met the rest of capcom titles and their art . With this I began to be interested in drawing characters but it was at an adult age that I decided to dedicate myself professionally to this .

Kasaix: That's nice. I like it when artists took their hobby with them as they grew up. It's wholesome. Did you go to an art school, or are you all self taught?

NevanDraws: At first it was self-taught , investigating how this world of art works and watching many tutorials . I did two years of master of concept art and painting , but to tell you the truth , I learned a lot with Korean digital drawing tutorials xd

Kasaix: That sounds interesting. I admire artists who are self-motivated. I procrastinate too much myself.

What are your favorite characters and themes to draw?

NevanDraws: I love Morrigan . Lady (DMC) , Marceline & PB (adventure time) Alicia , Samus , Tifa among many others .. the subjects to draw them is complicated sometimes you have to go to what is fashionable but I always try to draw characters that I find interesting to draw

Kasaix: Nice choices. I expect to see a lot more Tifa art with the remake coming out in March. What did you think of Tifa's change for the remake?

NevanDraws: I like this new look is more realistic and current but the companies are terrified with the politically correct and censorship and this hurts creativity and character design

Kasaix: Yeah, it was a 'department of ethics' that decided on Tifa's new look. Censorship shouldn't be a thing in gaming, but since this is an interview and not a soap box, we'll move on. Where do you get the inspiration for your projects from?

NevanDraws: I spend the day in Artstation exploring artist and being able to learn from them , it is difficult at first not to depend on inspiration but over time drawing becomes an automatic job where it only matters to shape the idea , making and discarting sketches until reaching what are you looking to convey in the drawing

Kasaix: That's a good process. Something can spark imagination and you have pictures like Tifa going, which I really like.

How long does it typically take you to finish a project?

NevanDraws: Half a year ago I spent two weeks or a month with a project , because I improved relatively recently for my liking and much remains to improve , now I usually take a week on a project , It is always good to have a large library of anatomy and other references drawings , then move on to draw and mold the idea until you are happy with the result . If the drawing is not very complicated it can be finished in a few days

Kasaix: Is there a project you'd really like to work on in the future?

NevanDraws: I would like in the future to make a project that is focused on some type of video game where I can apply my ideas without focusing so much on the fanart

Kasaix: That sounds interesting, and I hope to see it one day. I'd definitely cover it in an article.

What setup do you use to draw?

NevanDraws: I use photoshop on a huion monitor

Kasaix: Nice.

Let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final words to all your fans?

NevanDraws: Yep Thanks you for your interest and I hope to bring better works
