An Interview with elquijote
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello Doujin Army! I’m here hanging out with a really talented artist, the one and only elquijote. I’ve been following his work for quite some time, and I’m glad to be able to chat with him. Thanks for taking the time to hang out. How’s it going, elquijote?

elquijote: Sup there, im doing really good, thank you in advance for contacting me

Kasaix: It’s my pleasure to do so. Let’s start at the top, could you tell me how you first got into art?

elquijote: i remember it was when i was very young in elementary school, i was a very shy and introvert child so drawing some doodles in other children notebooks gave me some attention

Then it became a hobby and something i really enjoy

Kasaix: I know that feeling. I’m still an introvert myself.

Did you take art classes, or are you a self-taught artist?

elquijote: In that time communicating with other people was face to face all the time, so contacting teachers or other artists that i can call masters was really difficult, i am most a self-taught artists, via magazines, comics and art books, trying to copy the lines. I remember collecting stamp books of Dragonball just for the sole purpose to have some printed references i can bring with me to do some drawings in class

Kasaix: That’s nice. Dragon Ball is a great reference.

What are your favorite characters and themes to draw?

elquijote: I got several favorite characters, picking some is really difficult.... But i can try to recall some, Lucoa from Dragon Maid is top tier, oooh also Samus with and without the powersuit, Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 is also a cutie, she was my first crush, also some old cartoon girls like Jessica Rabbit, Betty Boop and Holly Would.... My favorite themes to draw are sexy females in cute situations, sensual and provocative, but never sexual, only if a client want their art with that themes, i always encourage to make them cute and sensual

Kasaix: We share similar tastes. Those are top tier girls. I prefer Ranma’s girl form myself. Softer stuff, cute situations with cute girls is always nice.

Do you have any original characters?

elquijote: Yes i do, there are few i can count with just one hand, but i have a special one that i created 15 years ago that has been my companion in this drawing trek, her name is Richie and is a short hair blonde that has evolved with me and my style for all this years, she is short and got no much breasts, but she got goddess hips and butt, i know you will like

Kasaix: Nice, I like that, it’s wholesome. Do you have a backstory for her?

elquijote: Yeah, also working for all this time in a comic about the world she lives in,  if you want to know about it im looking to get funds for making it a webcomic soon, i can say without giving spoilers that she is a very happy person, got no superpowers or things like that, just a normal girl, doesn’t know how to read or making maths, but she is a prodigy in sports like cycling and archery, she never ran out of stamina. She doesn’t attend school

Kasaix: That sounds cool. I hope to see this comic in the future. Where do you get the inspiration for all your projects?

elquijote: They just come spontaneously, sometimes i just start doing some random circles and then they transform into some bicycle wheels, then the bicycle needs a rider and then i make a concept girl on it, and so on, its magical, and most of the time, therapeutical

Kasaix: That’s nice. I love it when ideas come out of nowhere, and just flow naturally.

How long does it typically take you to finish an art project?

elquijote: depends directly in the complexity, sometimes an art can just take some minutes, others hours or days, while i try to get the correct colors and poses until i´m satisfied, i think the longest I spent in a drawing was 2 weeks, while i redrew and redrew it, changing colors and backgrounds nonstop until suddenly i liked it and leave the final product as i wanted it to be

Kasaix: You’re a perfectionist, I like it.

What do you feel is your best picture yet, and why?

elquijote: i do think is a Centaur Girl i made recently, it was a redraw of another centaur i made years ago, the complexity of the pose, the machinery, the colors and the dynamism on it make me think is my best illustration to date, maybe not the most liked or visited, but yet for me, is the one i love most

Kasaix: The Centaur’s apple, right? I like it too. The colors, the pose, the atmosphere, everything is magical.

Is there a project you'd really like to work on in the future?

elquijote: of course, my OCs comic and possibly some animation, i don’t know any of it, but i will learn it to make some fun short animations everyone can enjoy

Kasaix: I’d love to see an animation from you. That sounds cool.

What setup do you use to draw?

elquijote: i have severals but now i´m focusing on digital, i have a small graphic tablet and a graphic screen at home, but now i´m blown away on how practical are the phones and tablet that are compatible with conductive pens, they are portable and can be used almost in every place i carry them, they are not so powerful that computers, but this perk of portability is the main reason i´m getting used to it

Kasaix: Nice setup.

Where does your username come from?

elquijote: elquijote is a compound word of a Spanish Novel Classic, "El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha" written by Miguel de Cervantes, while i was first making my account on deviantart 13 years ago i needed to get a username, but unfortunately all the cool names i had in mind were already taken, so i randomly wrote the first thing that came to mind that it was the name of El Quijote and it worked!!! since then i kept it

and since you cannot put spaces in the names, i just make it as a single word

Kasaix: That’s amazing. That’s a cool name, especially with that lore behind it. I like it.

Let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final words to all your fans?

elquijote: thanks for all the people that supported my in all this time, i know I’m not a top artist yet, but i will make my best to be one, and make more juicy content for all to enjoy

I’d like to thank elquijote again for taking the time to hang out. If you’d like to follow more of his work, check out the sites below:
