Adult Swim and Crunchyroll Team Up for Blade Runner Anime
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

Since 1982, Blade Runner has frequently been hailed as one of the most important and inspiring scifi works in history, and has influenced a multitude of cyberpunk movies, games, TV shows and even anime, such as Bubblegum Crisis, Psycho-Pass, and Ghost in the Shell. The Blade Runner universe itself is no stranger to anime; Blade Runner 2022: Black Out was released last year, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop fame and released on Crunchyroll.

Now, Watanabe and Crunchyroll are reuniting with some special guests to create a 13 episode anime series based on the franchise. Titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus, the series is set to broadcast on Adult Swim as well as be available for streaming on Crunchyroll. Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama are set to direct the first season, which is also being produced by Sola Digital Arts. Interestingly, all three are also working on the upcoming Ultraman anime, meaning that they'll be working on both projects side-by-side.

The series will be set in 2032, during the gap between the two films. It's set to include familiar characters from the series, but no other plot details have beeen released. What are your thoughts on this? Will it be a worthwhile addition to the franchise like Black Out or will it be lost in time, like tears in the rain? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
