Darling in the FranXX is All About Sex
By ImJustThatKinky • 6 years ago

Trigger is doing it again, Tigger is saving anime. First with Kill la Kill, and now with Darling in the FranXX. With help from A-1 Pictures, Darling in the FranXX is one of the animes this season to receive a good amount of hype before it had even aired. Now after watching two episode, I can say that I’m expecting good things from it. But, something that I’ve notice from those two episode were that Trigger is not straying away from their Kill la Kill roots. Kill la Kill used Ryuko and other characters sexually revealing outfits as one of the many themes of the show. Well Darling in the FranXX is doing the same. Darling in the FranXX is using sex as one of it’s core themes.

Now I said one of it’s core themes was sex, (which it is) but, it’s also has themes of trust, connections and relationships. This series is a mix between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Kiznaiver. (which is another Trigger show) The general thing I want to talk about in this article are the pilots and the mechs.

To pilot mechs in this universe, you need two pilots, a boy and a girl. The boy is the pilot, while the girl acts as a battery for the mech, assumable becoming apart of the mech herself. Now we get into the real naughty bits of the show. The positioning of the two pilots is an obvious reference to sex. Anyone who knows the  basic of sex can tell that the pilots positioning looks like they’re doing it doggystyle. This doggystyle position inside the mech creates a power dynamic between the pair. The boy piloting the mech assumes a dominant role, while the girl plays a more submissive role.

If you didn't believe me maybe this moving image will convince you otherwise.

I love how Trigger knows how to make fanservice serve a purpose, I don’t even know if you can call it fanservice if it make sense towards the plot. The sexual metaphors also helps with the themes of relationships, connections, and trust. In most relationships (if it’s not a one night stand) you must trust a person before your willing to have sex with them. Sex is a very power dynamic thing. Someone takes the lead, while the other follows. With the pilots, they must trust each other to pilot the mech, which is seen in episode two. In episode two, a pair of pilots began having an argument inside the cockpit. Where the guy in the cockpit fucked up at, was when he started talking about another girl in front of his partner in a flirtatious manner, which broke her trust in him and threw their mech out of whack. (Note to guys, don’t ever talk about another girl when your partner is present) Even though the boy is the one piloting the mech, with out the girl willingness to help, the mech is useless. (You can’t have sex by yourself now can you.)

Man, if I had a nickel for everytime a girl told me to "Get it up already!" I'll have zero nickels...now just think about that.

I could go on about other things like how some traits of the main male character could point back to erectile dysfunction. Or how when the main character kissed the blue haired girl in episode two, in hopes that it’ll help start up the mech with the result of nothing happening, showing that he has no true feeling for said girl, unlike his feeling for the pink haired girl. But, if I did all that, I’ll be here all day and you don’t want to read all that shit. But, what I do want to bring up is a theory.

Now get that tight little ass into a "plug suit" because it's theory time!

My small little theory as of episode two is that our main male character, Hiro, and our heroine, Zero Two, pilot their mecha differently than the other pairs. When Hiro was inside her mech for the first time, he states to everyone that he couldn’t remember anything that happened while inside. Remember, Hiro can’t pilot a mech with another pair because he goes limp halfway through which shut down the mech. I believe that it’s going to be revealed that Zero Two is the actual pilot while Hiro is the one acting as the battery. Since the one piloting is resumable the dominant role and Zero Two has a very dominant personality, it wouldn’t be surprising if that was the case. Showing that a girl can wear the pants in the relationship. (Or Zero Two could just be a power bottom?) So, if that theory is shown to be true I want you all to remember that I was the first to bring it up! (maybe…)

But hey, that’s just a theory... a DOUJINS THEORY! Thanks for reading.
