Condom Company Creates Crazy Shonen Anime
By Yung Namahage • 3 years ago

If there's one thing Japan excels at, it's their uniquely weird commercials. Years ago, huge Hollywood stars like Arnold Schwarzanegger, Nicholas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones appeared in a number of strange adverts that were unlike anything you'd see on TV here in the west, and weren't intended to be seen outside of Japan until the internet got a hold of them. Hollywood celebrities don't tend to appear in Japanese commercials very often these days because they could come back to bite them much faster than they could've back in the 90s. But make no mistake, Japanese commercials are still as wild as they've ever been.

The latest example of bizarre marketing comes from Okamoto condoms, the self-proclaimed number 1 condom brand in the country. Their newest ad campaign takes the form of an anime called Condom Battler Goro. It's filled with familiar shonen tropes like a used condom is filled with cum: the training exam episode, the tournament arc, the awesome fight scenes complete with power ups and an emotional finale, all packed into a few action-packed and over the top 1 minute long episodes. There's hints of Dragon BallFist of the North StarBeyblade and much more but with added condoms. I'll just leave them here, starting with episode 1: The Birth of Condom Battler Goro.

Episode 19: The Survival Exam Commences

Episode 45: The Kondomu (Spirit Martial Arts) Championship Tournament Begins

Before you ask, I didn't skip most of the series; these are the only four episodes. They're just numbered that way to make it look like the highlights of an epic long-running series. That brings us to the series' climax - episode 56: Farewell, Beloved Goro.

In the end it's revealed that the main villain who looks like a fusion of Char Aznable and Raoh is actually Goro's father, who didn't use a condom and wasn't prepared to have a child. So the moral of the story is use protection so you don't end up anime fighting with your son?

The guy with the growing blue hair actually sent my sides into outer space, but what do you guys make of Condom Battler Goro? Does it make you want to buy Okamoto brand condoms? By using anime to advertise condoms are they missing out on their target demographic, i.e. people who actually have sex? Let us know what you think!
