I’ve been teasing this series a lot, since the manga always interests me, just reading is too difficult for my dumbass. So I always hoped that it would get an anime, and every little announcement showing that that was a possibility, I talked about. And now with a new teaser, showing off the anime visual, we can finally confirm that we’ll be seeing Akane-banashi in 2026.

Ever since I saw the manga, and enjoyed an anime by the name Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, I grew interested in this series, and rakugo as a whole. It’s a culture of Japan that I never knew, with an interesting way to tell a story with different lairs surrounding it, and the way it’s done. You see rakugo portrayed in many different anime as a side thing, but once I learned more about it through an anime that focuses mainly on that topic, I grew an appreciation and enjoyment of it as a whole now when I see it as a side thing in other shows.

Still one of my favorite anime.

So I’m wondering how this show is going to tackle it. I know it’s the main focus or at least the thing that keeps the series glued together. But with it being in Shonen Jump, I’m wondering if it is like a sports manga, that’s using rakugo as the sport. Is it more slice of life, with rakugo being the way the characters meet and interact. What’s our MC's main goal at the end of the day? I’m overall excited to finally get the chance to see how this story plays out. Hopefully it’s everything I hope for and more.

Are you excited for the Akane-banashi anime? Are you interested in rakugo? Have you already read this manga? Tell us in the comments.
