An Interview with Koshiosaur
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello friends and foes of Doujins! I’m here with yet another really talented artist, someone I’ve followed for quite some time, and for good reason. I love their art. The girls are varied, just perfecting both plot and justice. I could go on, but this is an interview, so I shall.

But first, thank you so much for hanging out Koshiosaur. How’s it going?

Koshiosaur: I’m doing good! Thanks for reaching out to me.

Kasaix: Let's start at the beginning: how did you first get into art?

Koshiosaur: I don’t exactly recall my starting point but I know I learned to draw very basic stuff at the age of 3 but I always drew because of my love for cartoons on TV. I would copy what I saw. I got really into art when I was introduced to Anime. I started taking it seriously when I realized I could make a career out of drawing.

Kasaix: Do you have a professional education in art, or did you doodle your way to mastery?

Koshiosaur: I’m no master haha, I learned through trial and error. I did go to school but it was for 3D. Personally I wouldn’t recommend anyone going into art education it’s gotten very pricey, I think it’s better to be very auto-critical about your work and consult online resources. There are no shortcuts to getting good at art, you have to try and fail always while taking note of why you failed.

Kasaix: What are your favorite characters and themes to draw?

Koshiosaur: First for themes, I LOVE beach themes and custom swimsuits. They’re the lewdest thing to draw for me. I love the summer skins in all Gacha games the characters look so pretty. Also honorable mention to traditional japanese outfit themes.

My favorite characters to draw, I don’t really have one, but I really like Bulma.

Kasaix: What do you feel is your best picture yet, and why?

Koshiosaur: My Allura in a swimsuit picture. I just love the anatomy, pose, and color palette of the entire image. Also my reference model was SwimsuitSuccubus whom I admire greatly.

Kasaix: How do you first tackle a project, and how long does a project typically take to finish?

Koshiosaur: To start, I find references. I’m not very good at creating cool poses but one of my favorite artist Hews, is very good at making lewd poses. I hope to be as good as Hews, but in the meantime I start with getting reference first. I do rough sketches, then I have 2 ways to go from there. First way is, I make clean lines and color the image to completion. Second way is, I start coloring over the sketch and kind of make the image as I go. The result is different, the first method results in clean thin lines and the second method results in rougher varied lines. I like to mix them up sometimes it speeds things up. 1 image can take 8 hours depending on the complexity. Simpler stuff takes 3-4 hours.

Kasaix: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Koshiosaur: My Patrons! I rarely play or watch ANYTHING. I’m so occupied with work and being human that my media consumption is very minimal. My patrons talk to me about characters from games and animes. I look them up and get really excited to draw some of those characters.

Kasaix: Do you have a project you really want to work on down the line? A comic series, or perhaps dabbling with animation?

Koshiosaur: I would love to do some animation and even hentai mangas. Though due to limited time I stick with making illustrations. I hope someday I can become an independent artist through Patreon or anything like it. It will allow me free time to experiment.

Kasaix: What sort of setup do you use for your projects? A special tablet, pen, etc?

Koshiosaur: Old wacom intuos tablet for when I draw on the PC. It’s so old that the thing is starting to fall apart but I will use it until it breaks in half haha. I also have an iPad Pro that I use when my back hurts from sitting all day.

Kasaix: I understand that you’re incredibly busy, so let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final words to all your fans?

Koshiosaur: I am happy I even have fans, I’m glad you guys enjoy my work. I’m always in disbelief that people actually enjoy seeing the stuff I make. I never thought I would have any kind of support for my art. So from the bottom of my heart thank you all for taking interest in my work!
