An Interview with Bluethebone
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello friends and foes of Doujins! I’m here with Bluethebone, a really talented artist with a really unique and retro style. Blue’s style is right at home with the anime style of the 80’s and early 90’s. It’s just great. I’ve been following her style for quite some time and finally decided to reach out to her for an interview. I’ve seen some classic anime, some of it classic hentai, and the style is damn near 1:1.

But I digress, thank you so much for hanging out Blue. How are you doing?

Blue: Howdy, Kasaix!! I’m doin’ all “guwu in the huwu”~ Haha, geddit? “Good in the hood”? No? O-okie… But seriously, thank you Kasaix, for reaching out to me and for your loving support ♥ It’s my first interview, so I’m pretty nervous but I’ll give it my all!! >:3c

(I hope you don’t mind me using emojis, it helps me express more!)

Kasaix: Let's talk about your background in art. How did you first get into drawing? Do you have professional training, or are you mostly self-taught?

Blue: Hmm, I first got into drawing in my childhood, though I don’t exactly remember when or how.. But I know that throughout growing up, I got very inspired by artists like Bruce Timm (Justice League), Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma ½), Irie Aki (Ran to Haiiro no Sekai), and a whole lot more! :D

But anyways, I am mostly self-taught~ I have never been to an art school or taken art classes (besides high school requirements of course). Throughout my life, I’ve only learn via observation through reading manga and watching anime and cartoons! :O

Oh! And just recently, in late 2018, I’ve started to learn animation by myself too! \;u;/

Kasaix: What first drew you to retro-style art? Like I said before, it’s almost 1:1 with the art style of the time. It has that rough, hand-drawn style with some imperfections expected of the time, such as graining. I’m blown away by it. It’s both charming and lewd as anything.

Blue: After binge-watching Ranma ½ , it was initially for fun experimenting! I really enjoyed the non-exaggerated, yet cute and charming proportions of retro style anime. The males looked so manly with their broad shoulders and rounded chins, and I loved the “meatiness” and hands of the females! But all in all, it was the poofy, crazy hair and the sparkly, simple eyes that I fell in love with ~ ♥

I wasn’t satisfied with my results and tried to make it more accurate, thus recreating retro anime style art and animations eventually became my journey!

Also, as a NSFW artist, THERE’S NOT ENOUGH RETRO HENTAI!!! >:U

Kasaix: Which character or characters do you like to draw the most?

Blue: I usually like to draw and design my own original characters like Bluesona, with simple yet cute designs! But in general, I also enjoy drawing fanart to see how the characters would look like if they were seen in an 80s or 90s anime~

Kasaix: What art piece are you most proud to show off, and why?

Blue: Well.. I have this one NSFW animation that I’m really really proud of, but it’s on Patreon and not available in public yet! So ya’ll are gonna have to wait, hehe ♥ (hint hint: it’s my first attempt at a magical girl transformation)

But honestly, I love all of them! I can’t pick haha;; Each piece shows my progress towards achieving true 1:1 retro anime style.

Kasaix: Do you have any upcoming projects that you’re excited about?

Blue: Hmmm.. I’ve been thinking about making a retro hentai game or a long hentai animation video. But it’s going to be a while, since I’m fairly new to this journey;;

Kasaix: What is one project you really want to work on down the line? A comic series, longer animations, etc?

Blue: Ah! The same answer as above~ ^^; Ooh, but a comic series doesn’t sound so bad though!

Kasaix: What advice would you give to people looking to get into art and animation? What would you recommend they use to work, like a certain type of device?

Blue: Based on my experience, I would focus on observing other art but also try to draw out of your comfort zone. I love a good challenge that could bring something new to the table!
Keep drawing everyday but be patient on yourself. Don’t EVER compare yourself to others!! Draw what you enjoy, draw for yourself!!

As for tools, I recommend a simple drawing tablet (I have a Wacom Intuos Pro)! I don’t think you need anything fancy, as long as you’re good at what you do~

Kasaix: Let’s wrap it up here so you can continue to make retro hentai that takes us back to that bygone era of animation. What words do you have for all your fans?

Blue: Thank you so much Kasaix, again, for having me here, and thank you thank you thank you to my friends and fans for your love and support, I really love you all ♥

LET’S RELIVE RETRO HENTAI TOGETHER!! YEET-HAW PARDNERS ♥ *dabs*
