Yandere Gone Too Far? Cosplayer Stabs Friend in Tokyo
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

Being a cute girl's object of affection is all fun and games until she pulls a knife on you, as one guy in Tokyo unfortunately learned.

The anonymous man in his 20s met with his female friend Yuka Takaoka, aged 21, at her fifth-floor apartment in Shinjuku Ward, before she pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed him twice in the abdomen. Takaoka called the police shortly after and confessed to the crime, saying "I like him too much, I can't help but kill him," and that she "planned to kill him first and then thought about commiting suicide" when they found her sitting next to his body. Fortunately, the man survived the stabbing but is currently in critical condition in hospital.

The internet has been fascinated by this story for two reasons - firstly because Takaoka's lethal obsession is a classic yandere trope and secondly because she's cute as hell.

Seriously, I don't know what it is about people looking over a mentally unstable person's horrific acts of violence just because they happen to be good looking but this is far from the first time that has happened. I don't mean to make light of the situation - being stabbed is a horrific experience from what I've heard and obviously both the victim and Takaoka's families will be deeply impacted by it, but there is one amusing coincidence:

A few months earlier, Takaoka posted a photo on her Instagram cosplaying as My Hero Academia's resident knife-wielding yandere Himiko Toga, and the stabbing is completely in character for her. Let's hope she didn't try biting the guy as well.
