Winter Anime Are Looking Wack
By WakeUpSnooze • 4 years ago

Whoah whoah chill, before everybody starts coming for my head, this article is going to be about the new anime that are starting up in winter 2020. I’m not talking about Railgun specifically here, though it is wack that there aren’t any boobs for her to grab. Tragic. Anyway, there’s a lot of ongoing established series right now that are coming back or continuing: Haikyuu, A Certain Scientific Railgun, My Hero Academia. I’m talking about the anime that are going to actually start for the first time in this coming season.

I do want to mention there are some shows that grab my attention. Pet is apparently an anime about people who can manipulate minds and alter the memories of others. I don’t know how the fuck you could mess that premise up, and it’s pretty high up on Anichart in popularity for an anime that isn’t from an already known franchise. Right now I trust it the most to be good. ID:Invaded is a mystery set in a world with unconventional physics.I know the rules of the world we live in play a big role in allowing detectives to solve mysteries, so removing that element and forcing a detective to work without them seems like it could be interesting. Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun immediately grabs my attention due to the thicc line art style that reminds me of Demon Slayer. Unfortunately, the comedy tag scares me a bit. Maybe it’ll be funny, what the fuck do I know. Oh, and Dorohedoro is looking good too. It’s another heavy CG show (but it’s so clean in the PV it’s hard to tell what is CG and what isn’t sometimes), however Beastars proved to me that they can be quality material if done correctly.

Come on baby, one of you has to be good.

But then you got the shit kids rolling in. I could be entirely wrong since nothing is out yet, but god some of this stuff looks generic. Darwin’s Game is another one of those social death games where a group of people have to survive a game. Darwin is in the title, so I hope that means the writing is smart, cause I do enjoy the premise. Most of the time the problem is that it’s hard to keep the pacing up by killing off characters fast enough that it doesn’t get boring, but not too fast that there’s not enough time to care about them before they go. Somali to Mori no Kamisama is a fantasy anime about a golem and a lone human girl. I’m scared because it just looks like a rip off of that one anime with a girl and a weird wizard creature...The Ancient Magus’ Bride. Then there’s the normal random sports stuff. This time apparently it’s time to play rugby with the boys in number24. Oh, and don’t forget your seasonal idol shit. For girls you have ARP Backstage Pass which seems to be about hot boys singing. Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu had my attention for a second. It’s an idol show about a girl who is obsessed with a very minor member of an unpopular idol group. For a split second I thought it was going to be a dark tale about obsessive fans and explore the psyche of someone who loves an idol too much, but then I saw the comedy tag and watched the PV. Somehow after seeing them, I’m pretty sure I’m shit out of luck if I wanted anything remotely thought provoking. Crossing my fingers that there's a chance.

One of you has to be...actually no, I don't think so.
