OH HOLY SHIT, IT’S HERE EVERYBODY. HOLY FUCK I HAVE WAITED YEARS FOR… oh, wait. Oh.. okay false alarm this is not in fact a remake of the classic anime fighting game Melty Blood. This new remake is Tsukihime: A Piece Of Blue Glass Moon and it’s intended to release for the Switch and PS4 in summer 2021. Fellow writer Yung Namahage already did an article covering most of the background information associated with this remake so feel free to check that out. The opening movie for the game was done by ufotable (so you already know it’s good) and holy shit what an absolute banger that was. Even though Yung already showed the trailer, I’ll leave it here again in case you didn't watch the opening video from it the first time. If you want to skip straight to it, it begins at two minutes and thirty seconds. That's how clean it is.
My disappointment from the lack of a fighting game remake announcement was huge, but my enjoyment from the opening was also huge so I guess they cancel each other out. One day maybe. However, there’s one more thing to consider that made me write this article. Fun fact: the original Tsukihime was an adult visual novel with sex scenes. Sure it put the plot first, but some steamy scenes here and there were certainly present according to several reviews and articles I read. I’ve never found the time to play it myself. The reviews stated that the sex was rare, however that made it mean more and it wasn’t poorly executed compared to other adult visual novels of the time. With this remake though, I’m seriously doubting we will see a return that includes the h-scenes.
For one, it’s coming out for the Switch and PS4. Sony and Nintendo have really toned down the amount of lewdness permitted for games that play on their systems. Second, while the original did have porn, everyone I’ve heard opinions from stated that it was often thrown on the backburner for plot instead. It’s entirely possible the porn was simply added to attract attention and horny people as Type Moon wasn’t popular at the time. Now that they have enough clout to pull in ufotable for the opening I suspect the porn will be completely dropped from the remake. On one hand I can’t be too disappointed because so far there hasn’t been word on a Western release and apparently the company is known for not being competent with those. On the other hand at this point if there’s no official release someone will probably translate and release it over here anyway unofficially. All I’m saying is if there IS still porn in the remake, it might finally be time to play this visual novel for myself baby.
Just give me one animated sex scene from ufotable and we'll say that's enough!
If there’s no lewd shit I’ll probably stay content with watching the opening hundreds of times and call that a day. Now if they ever stop fucking around and make that fighting game I’ll be busting a nut from raw hype. Perhaps the remake will re-spark interest in the series and cause that to happen.
