Will the Higurashi Remake Be Toned Down?
By ImJustThatKinky • 3 years ago

I haven’t watched a good horror anime in a while. I can’t remember the last one that I’ve watched, since it’s been so long. You might say the last horror anime I watched was the fourth season of Hell Girl, if you can even call Hell Girl a horror anime since it never really scared me. But an anime that actually scared me and had me shaking in my little booties was Higurashi: When They Cry. I’m happy to see Higurashi getting a remake, but I’m also scared about how the remake will compare to the original.

Few things about the Higurashi PV that stood out to me. First, the art looks very clean. It has that new anime look that you’d expect from something that’s getting a remake, and I’m not sure if that’s going to help the anime or hurt it. Second, the character designs are good, but I’m not sure if it fits Higurashi. I feel like people look too cute and bubbly, but it could work.

Which face scares you more?

Last, and what I’m most worried about, is that the scenes won’t be as gruesome as the original. The scene at the end of the PV with Keiichi bashing something or someone with a bat didn’t really trigger anything in me. Now I know it was just a trailer and there’s many crazy scenes to come, but I’m still just worried. With the new art style and character designs, I’m just wondering if this is still going to be the scary and unnerving Higurashi that I grew up with. Maybe now that I’m older, the old Higurashi wouldn’t even scare me as much as it did when I was just a young lad. But I truly feel like many of the scenes that made Higurashi famous and people go “OH SHIT!! THIS IS FUCKED UP!!” are going to be tone down.

You can't show shit like this in 2020.

Did the old Higurashi scare you? Are you hype for the Higurashi remake? Do you think it’ll be toned down? Tell us in the comments.
