When You Know The Doujins Aren't Coming
By WakeUpSnooze • 4 years ago

You ever see an anime and think “oh shit...here they come”? You can feel it. The perfect mixture of popularity and anime girls that will lead to a truckload of doujins in a few weeks. My Hero Academia certainly comes to mind as a prime example. As soon as I saw Tsu, Toga, and Midnight and combined them with the popularity of the show I knew it would be a doujin festival. Sure enough there’s My Hero Academia porn around every corner of the Internet these days (some of it better than others). And now I’m just waiting for Fire Force to catch up and add some of its girls deep into the doujin game. This got me thinking. If you can tell that an anime is likely going to see doujins for days, perhaps the opposite is true as well.

Now I’m not suggesting that you won’t be able to find any porn for some anime whatsoever. Duh, it’s the Internet. I’m merely saying you’ll be scrounging around for that shit. Then when you find it it’ll be lazily drawn or poorly animated because the top creators didn’t want to bother. Upon this revelation I instantly thought of one thing: Carole and Tuesday. Every once and a while there comes an anime where lewding it just seems like a massive waste of time. You would think a center focus on two girls would spawn doujin galore, but let’s look closer.

First of all, the show itself is pretty much devoid of fanservice and for good reason. Both Fire Force and My Hero Academia will have small moments where some attention is placed on boobs or someone being hot or flirty, etc. It’s no secret that the classic doujin giants Naruto and Bleach used this tactic as well. In Carole and Tuesday the closest thing to that is Cybelle, a minor female character who tries to come on to Tuesday but even that doesn’t leave much impact. I hate the fuck out of that Grape Boy hero, but I’ll admit his constant mentions of the girls make my mind sometimes drift to lewd shit. There simply isn’t an acknowledgment of sex here.

Not a chance in hell that this degeneracy would be in C&T.

Second, Carole and Tuesday is in that weird popularity spot. I watch it, my friend watches it, but I never hear about it. Are you guys watching it? Anyway despite some initial hype surrounding it when it started airing in Japan I haven’t seen the buzz necessary to receive porn. Artists are no fools. They’ll often prioritize what’s popular to ensure they get a solid amount of views even in the porn world. As soon as Demon Slayer trended on Twitter a few weeks ago you better believe I saw an immediate rise in sexy Nezukos. Unless the show sees a tremendous boost in viewership when it releases on Netflix I don’t expect the popularity to grow much.

What? Did you think I was lying or something?

Lastly let’s analyze the overall aesthetic and tone of the show. This shit does not know the meaning of dark. This is the type of anime where I start expecting everybody to start sleeping with a nightlight. I’m like 16 episodes into the show and nowhere in it did I feel something sinister.  When Demon Slayer aired I expected the true shounen stereotypes of people receiving some slashes and cuts yet no horrible damage, but damn that shit can get gory. Even though that’s not sexual at all, it does give an air that this is a big boy show and adult themes are on the table. It’s abundantly clear after a few episodes that Carole and Tuesday is meant to be goofy, lighthearted, uplifting, and relaxing. Very few people want to experience those feelings for twenty minutes and then go jack off.

See that? That's the doujin killer pose.

Acknowledgment that sex exists, popularity, and tone. These are the special ingredients I look for when crunching the numbers and preparing my dick for what doujins are to come. And man, I haven’t been this confident that an anime won’t be seeing doujins in a while. What things do you notice about anime that receive a ton of porn? Do you wish something would get more that absolutely won’t? Leave your predictions in the comments below!
