Trying to Make a Manga
By ImJustThatKinky • 5 years ago

We all have dreams of one day being something great when we a little, sometimes dreams that are way too ambitious for our age, like being race car driver, an astronaut, a movie star, or even a superhero! When I was younger, I wanted to be a game developer, which then soon changed into me wanting to be a manga artist. So when I had some free time, I tried to do just that, and this is what came of it.

The story was about a guy who dream was to be a manga artist, (yeah, so meta and so original) it had more to it then that but I don’t really want to go into detail on that. It was clearly inspired by Bakuman, with those guys whole struggle trying to make their dreams come true and all but mine had a different kind of spin on that concept. Here are a few more panels from the story:

Drawing manga was not as hard as I thought it would be, it was more taxing and time consuming if anything. That why I went with a rough style because trying to do it like the professional took a lot of time and precision with the tools used for making manga. At first, I just used a ball point pen and card stock paper as you can see from the first image. One my second panel and changed to a black sharpie pen and sketchbook paper. For shading I used a black pencil and black and gray Hulu Art Markers.  But then, once my sharpie pen ran out of ink, I figured that I would get at least a little more serious, so I bought myself a pack of different Sakura Pens and went back to card stock paper. So I was definitely was a manga artist on a budget, but hey, maybe that’s what made my art and style different and unique. No rulers for panels, not using a tradition dip pen, and no screen tones for shading. If you guys are interested in seeing the first chapter of my story I wouldn’t mind uploading it here for you guys to check out and read, if people are interested. And before I go, here are some practice panels I did before I decided to work on the story, try guessing what manga they are from.

Also, remember when I said I wanted to be a game developer when I was little but decided to be a manga artist instead? Well that dream is back, and I’ve been working on a game over at my PATREON!
