The Greatest Anime Dance Scene of the Year has Arrived
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

Another week, another JoJo's episode. And David Productions continue to go above and beyond doing justice to the manga it's based on.

Last week, fans were eagerly awaiting a certain iconic scene from Vento Aureo. The scene in question involves the gang finding Mario Zucchero, the pursuer that hid on their boat and deflated them so he can steal the treasure they were after. After capturing him and reinflating, the guys take turns kicking the shit out of him, before beginning some truly cold-blooded torture.

Using gang leader Bruno's Sticky Fingers, they unzip his still-living head from his body, pierce his eyelid with a fishing hook, hang his head over a rail so he faces the sun, and force a pair of glasses on his face to concentrate the sun's rays into his open eyeball. Before continuing the interrogation, Narancia hits play on his boombox and begins an epic synchronized dance sequence with his partners Mista and Fugo, while poor Zucchero tries to scream in pain from his zipped-shut mouth. What ensues is one of the finest examples of black comedy in the series.

Sadly, this long-awaited scene wasn't present in last week's episode. Instead, Abbachio's tragic past as a cop was shown, which doesn't come up for a few arcs in the manga. Nonetheless, it was still a great episode, but fans who were looking forward to the gang dance were slightly annoyed.

Cut to today's episode, which opens with Zucchero's interrogation commencing. A few minutes in, Narancia hits the boombox as expected, but no-one could have anticipated how glorious the dance scene would be. Of course, the animation is much more fluid than the dance was in the games All Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven, but the funky music, awesome camera angles and trippy shots of Zucchero as his sclera melts are the icing on the cake. Watch for yourselves below.

It's good to see what David Productions are doing with their well-earned budget, and that they chose to put so much detail into a fan-favorite scene even if it is a minor one. If King Crimson's first appearance is anywhere near as amazing as this, I'll be impressed.
