The Ghibli Amusement Park to Open in 2022
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

Recently, we discussed how a Ghibli landmark, the Kincho Shrine, which famously appeared in Pom Poko, is planned to be torn down. However, we have some far better news that is certain to lift some spirits. As reported by Esuteru, and confirmed by NHK, there is going to be a huge amusement part dedicated to the magic of Ghibli films. Esuteru is reporting that it is to open in 2020, but NHK is saying 2022, and we're willing to listen more to NHK on this one. So, how big is it going to be? If this map and concept art is to be believed, fairly large. Eat your heart out Disney World.

The park is going to be built near Nagoya, the largest city in the Chubu region and in the Pacific coast of central Honshu (a bit of geography for those planning to visit in 2022. Take pictures!).

The entrance to the park is planned to recreate Howl's Moving Castle, including the fun elevators. Once inside, one of the features is planned to be Whisper of the Heart’s Chikyuya antique shop. Two other features of the park, which already have us hyped, are Kiki's childhood home from Kiki's Delivery Service and a location called "Totoro's Hometown", featuring Satsuki and Mei's home from My Neighbor Totoro. If that doesn't already have you booking your tickets years in advance, while not confirmed, some concept art has shown a giant spider from Princess Mononoke and a building with the words "Cat Bus", making us think (and hope) there's a tour bus based on the famous living magical bus from My Neighbor Totoro

Until 2022, you're more than welcome to visit the Ghibli Museum in Inokashira Park in Mitaka, a western city of Tokyo, which opened in 2001, and agonize over the concept art of what is planned to open in 2022. Let us know what you think about all this in the comments below.
