Sub Vs. Dub - Japanese Fans Weigh In
By Kasaix • 6 years ago

An argument that can quickly rile anime fans into a frenzy is the divided opinion of subs and dubs, or the vocal track used in anime episodes: the original Japanese dialogue with subtitles for those who don't speak or read Japanese, or American dubs replacing the Japanese dialogue. This argument isn't without merit, or course: a lot is lost in translation, and some aspects are indeed censored on their way across the pond.

A YouTuber by the name of That Japanese Man Yuta polled actual Japanese people and asked for their opinion: sub or dub? Surprisingly, the opinion was divided, with some immediately saying they preferred Japanese dialogue, and others, such as one man who said he preferred Dragon Ball Z in the English dub. It was his opinion that Goku, a main protagonist of the series, sounds cooler voiced by Sean Schemmel, as opposed to Masako Nozawa, who voices Goku and his relatives in the original Japanese dub.

What do you think of these results? Should this settle the age-old argument of subs vs dubs? Discuss this in the comments below.
