Is Creating Relationships Online the New Thing?
By ImJustThatKinky • 3 years ago

I have real friends, friends I can see every day and touch. But that’s seeming like old news now. Sure you want to see those people one day, but the more time spent on the internet, it seems like everyone is just making friends online more than they are in real life.

I can make so many friends.

Spending time on Twitter and Discord just makes me wonder how many people actually have friends outside of the internet. So many people seem to be close with one another online and may have never even met before. You see people being in online relationships with people that might be in a whole other state or country. People posting on Twitter about how much they can’t wait to finally meet their boyfriends or girlfriends. It’s crazy how close people can get without even being in the same room as each other.

But the scary thing about making connections online is that you never can really gauge how invested the other party is in the friendship or relationship. But I guess that could also hold true for real life friendships and relationships, it’s just especially apparent online. I can never tell if the person is enjoying talking to me or if they’re just humouring me because they don’t want to be rude and end the conversation. It’s always a shit feeling when you're on discord, chatting someone up and you’re thinking that you two are having a good time and all of the sudden they don’t message you or respond to your messages. It’s like “did I do something wrong? Was I being creepy?” It always sucks to be ghosted and you don’t even know what for. Another scary thing is if you're thinking about being in a relationship with someone online, they can easily lie about how they look. And when you finally meet, you find out you wasted 3 months of your life being in love with someone you don't find attractive. Yeah I know, shallow, but it's the truth.

I talk to a few people online but I can’t really tell how they view me. Maybe they view me as a friend. Maybe they view me as just someone they’re working with. Or maybe they just view me as a horny guy who buys audio porn from them. I may never know.

Do you more IRL friends, or online friends? Do you think most people find relationships online now? How upset would you be if some lied about their appearance? Tell s in the comments.
