We’ve talked about incest, this time let’s talk about incels. Incel is short for Involuntary Celibacy. Yikes!

           Involuntary celibacy or incel is a word that was coined by Alana, a Canadian college student back in 1993 on a website called Alana’s Involuntary Celibacy Project. Fast-forward to some odd years after she created the website, an online community in Reddit created an active incel forum. However, while Alana’s website was more positive, with the creator saying that:

“I identified that there were a lot of people who were lonely and not really sure how to start dating.

They were kind of lacking those social skills and I had a lot of sympathy for that because I had been through the same situation.”

           Today, though, the incel community is getting a really bad rep. It started with the Reddit incel forum that discussed their lack of sexual activities, as well as misogynistic views that condone, downplay, and advocate rape and referred to women as “bitches” and “sluts.” The subreddit was banned in 2017. However, there are still incel communities in other, more lenient platforms like Voat and 4chan. There is also an incel forum that disapprove the hatred, like /r/IncelsWithoutHate, and a dating websites for incels called dateanincel.com.

           The influence of incels can be seen in doujins and hentai by means of those greasy, fugly guys, usually with glasses, that can almost always be seen in NTR stories. This may be because they embody those people that can’t have a sex partner because of their insecurities in their physiology.

           Today, involuntary celibates are more commonly known by the meme “ForeverAlone.”
