I was browsing the web at work when I stumbled upon a news article regarding a certain teacher having an illicit relationship with her student. Then, I thought to myself; “Damn, lucky boy!” (The teacher was hot!)
As a person with teacher friends, this kind of thing always comes off as a joke. However, I was unaware of how much of a taboo student-teacher relationship really is. Brace yourself because it isn't as good as hentai and porn portray it to be.

This is something of a surprise to me. Most of the accounts in news and other media in the last few months portray that women teachers are the one who initiate these illicit relationships. Sex crime is sex crime! They’re particularly heinous against children. An adult teacher having a romantic, or rather sexual, relationship with their minor students is straight-up illegal. According to Texas Classroom Teacher’s Association’s 2017 - 18 Survival Guide:
“Sexual contact or indecent exposure with a minor is a felony that requires the perpetrator to register as a sex offender. It also is a felony for any school district employee to engage in a sexual relationship with a student, even if that student us of the legal age of consent. This prohibition includes students enrolled in schools where the teacher is not employed.”
Even though some of Japan’s law is different, like with their age of consent is significantly low (13 years old), a teacher having a romantic relationship with a student is extremely frowned upon.
It’s Morally Wrong!
Teachers stand as the loco parentis or the second parent for their students. It is therefore unthinkable for a teacher, who under the law is a substitute parent, to have amorous feelings towards his or her minor student. It’s like incest, sort of.
Teachers are supposed to have good judgment and maturity to not act on sexual impulses towards their students. Teachers are looked up to by their students. They should be role models to them. They should not abuse their power and position to satisfy their lust.
