Well, it’s all about protecting the kids right? Since Discord is such a responsible and respectful app, they decide to add an age verification system starting in early March.

Another dumb decision by a company, and an indication of the stupid direction this society is going. People can bitch and moan all they want about trying to protect kids, and restricting kids from going to adult sites, and communities. But kids or kids, and they are going to find a way in one way or another. It’s up to the parents to take care, and monitor their kids. Not us. And also, I saw porn as a kid, and grew up just fine.

The system they’re deciding to go with is face recognition or ID scan, which, if you already know Discord track record, wasn't so good.

They also state in their rules that all photos and information will be deleted immediately. But another controversial app, Tea, said the same thing in their user agreement, and guess what? When they were hacked, the hackers were able to get their IDs?!

Luckily, it seems like some users, based on past track records, and activities, may not have to do any of these things and be labeled as an adult without handing over their ID.

I enjoyed surfing the web without worrying about every single person and company on the internet knowing my information, and I believe any sane person would feel the same way. We have people canceling their Discord Nitro subscription in an effort to boycott discord.

And some people will say, “Well if you go into a club, you have to show your ID, so what’s the difference?” The difference is that I’m sure the bouncer isn’t putting my ID into a database for other people to see it. Or that he has photographic memory to remember everything on my ID. And if the bouncer took my ID, and took a photo of it before giving it back to me. Yeah, then I would have a problem. The main issue in this whole topic is that these companies do not care about the kids or teens, and are using that as an excuse to get all our information. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if the face scanning system is going to be used to train AI. They are going to need movie extras right? All the dumb AI supporters are going to be surprised when they see they’re face deepfaked into a random movie.

"Wait, why does that guy look like me?"
Discord is a huge/popular app, so I’m not sure how much this is really going to hurt them in the long run. How many people are going to just go back to Skype because of this? When Tumblr removed NSFW, it pretty much killed itself. But when Twitter started fucking up, and Blusky was made, Twitter still survived the fall. So is Discord going to be something that’s able to take the heat, or will something else take its place?
Do you think this is going to ruin Discord? Are you going to cancel your Nitro subscription? Are you fine with giving Discord your ID or face scan? Tell us in the comments.
